my expirence witht he surgery was fine

the front page does not help with a reembersment or taxes because it does not break down the amount per service only a lump sum amount.

The clinic in Edmonton has a special revision department. The surgeon that performs them is Dr DeGara I believe. Your family doctor can refer you.

Hi There,

I just sent an email to Cathy asking for a detailed receipt and the process around that. The front page of my package has a list of what is all included in the cost of the surgery. Besides the issue with the receipt how was your experience with your surgery? Or have you not gone down yet? I am due to go for October 15th. Once I have a reply from Cathy about the detailed receipt I will follow up with you.

I would disagree with you Jay.

i went through the Red Deer clinic and they were incredible.  The wealth of information they gave was incredible and they also cleared up a lot of the garbage that you can find on the internet as well.  I do suggest that you investigate this surgery with all kinds of sources, the net being one but in the end your main source should be your health care professionals.

as far as the 10 -15 percent to lose before surgery, they weight you your first appointment and I am pretty sure it's from that weight.  I was in fast due to the evolution study so I hadn't lost anything significant when I went to my first appointment so for me it wasn't any big deal.

there is no "pay" option at Red Deer and this is the first time I have heard that about Canadian programs.  I know in the states that payees can jump que but first I have heard about that here and not sure I would ever believe that.

as far as being turned away, yes there can be times when a person is not recommended for surgery at this time.  It can depend on your test results (ECG, gastroscopy, health professionals) but in all these incidents it is done with a lot of scrutinizing by your team and is done with your best health needs in mind.  I have read the blog by the sisters and I even spoke to my nurse about it.  She said that to her knowledge anyone that didn't qualify for the program was always explained why.  She was literally shocked to hear about the blog I had been following and she said that while she was not personally present in their meetings she did not believe the full story was being shared in the blog.  Regardless of what happened with those two I personally know many that went to Red Deer and everything was great and our lives were forever changed for the better.

I also agree. The weight lose surgery process seems to about generating trips to the doctors offices or labs to only wait some more. I would like to know how much Alberta Health Care pays for these needless appointments tests and weird weight management classes. Mexico does not waste your time the people I have spoke with are very up front with everything. Even dumb Questions.

Hey Lucy,

what clinic were you at?   I didn't think there was a pay option for the weight wise clinics or I'm sure many people would have been willing to do that instead if wait.   I just got excepted into the Evolution study from Edmonton so hopefully that will give me an edge into getting in.  I have a meeting with them on Monday

Hi Tara don't want to burst your bubble but I've been weight 6 years lost 10% on different times and got turned down or what they called passed over for someone in more need. Personally I think they went for the cash payees first. At least 2 people in my weight lose class had the cash and they were guaranteed a spot up front.

My new doctor say he is really optimistic and wants to refer me to a bariatric surgeon. I just smiled and thought here's another doctor that doesn't even bother to read a brief history or file on a new patient. I'm investigating Mexico.

good luck, LW

Sincerely, Lucy
