Have you contacted AHS to indicate that you would like to see a similar group setup in Calgary?

There is long history around how the AHS Edmonton post-op support group came into being. It took years for this to occur and pressure from various organizations and people to make happen.  At this point, I believe, the AHS group is a pilot and will be assessed at the end of the year to see if it should continue.  Maybe it will be expanded out to other cities if it proves successful.  Just my opinion.

Cheers!

Hi Robert:

I was originally planned as a 2 surgery process as I was a super morbidly obese patient.  There were far too many risks for the clinic to entertain only an RnY despite what you see on TV and My 600 lbs Life.  The sleeve was originally designed as a 1st step procedure for such patients.  It allowed me to drop about 100 lbs so that I could undergo the RnY much more safely.  It just so happens that some patients have found great success in the sleeve and don't need/want to consider the RnY.

The waiting list for Dr. Toy is, at least 1 year.  Some people I know have been waiting up to 2 years.  It doesn't matter if you are self pay.  When it comes to plastics, everyone is essentially self pay as only 2 procedures are covered by AHS.  The pannus removal and breast reduction.  Everything else is pay.  The cost is dependent on what you need to have done, the severity of the deformity, and what procedures you can bundle together in one surgical session.  I can say that for a abdonimoplasty (tummy tuck), you are looking at about $7,000.  For arms (brachioplasty), about $8000-$9000.  I've heard that LBLs are in the $10,000.  Not sure about inside thighs.  My upper back lift was $4000.  These are only guidelines.  You need to talk to Dr. Toy or your plastic surgeon for actual numbers.

Hope this helps!

Cheers!

Good Morning, after reading through your surgical history I have few questions.  Why did you have to do the revision to the RNY after getting VSG ?  Do you have any idea what the waiting list for Dr. Toy is, if you're willing to do total self pay (would like to do a lower body lift, chest, thighs and arms). ? Do you know what these procedures would cost roughly. maybe it would be too much to handle ?   My total weight loss at my goal weight is approx 200 lbs. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Topic: Hello just would like some guidance and info

Hello my name is Andrew and Im from Red Deer AB, I just got accepted into the red deer clinic and I have my first appointment in July and I was wondering roughly how long is the process? I been struggling with my weight since I had a horrible car accident in 2006 I was only 17 the result was I lost my kneecap and because of my weight Im always in pain. I was referred by my family doctor and my knee surgeon to get weight loss surgery. I have no problems with dieting been on it since 2006 but cant workout due to knee pains. Bottom line is that im scared I really want this I believe this will finally help get my weight off would like some tips or anything really I want to get my life back on track. Please and thank you :)

Topic: AHS Post Surgery Support Group Meeting - May 22

Folks: Given that there seems to be a lot of chat about post-weight loss plastics, I wanted to remind everyone about the AHS support group meeting regarding skin care and plastics on Thursday, May 22.  For more information, check http://www.albertahealthservices.ca/ps-1063953-post-bariatri c-support-grp-sched.pdf

Sorry, the AHS meeting is limited to post-surgery clients.  :(

Cheers!

Topic: RE: alberta health reembursment

Glad to hear from you, extremely happy that your sleeve and and post surgery life has gone well.  I myself have lost just under 100 lbs at 5 1/2 months, when I add in the 50 lb loss before surgery I am close to 145 down since mid Sep 2013.  As a result I am in weight loss heaven.  A few issues regarding acid reflux etc., but hopefully things will work out in time.   Will let you know when I get reimbursed from Alberta Health.  Once again very happy to hear you are doing so well.

Thanks so much for your response.  I joined a group but it is mainly people from the states and while it is still informative and helpful... There are a lot of issues that are definitely country specific.  Thanks!

The EBSG Yahoo page is long gone.  Everything has been moved to www.edmontonbsg.ca or our Facebook Discussion forum.

Cheers!
