qotd fri for Kristin
ok.... so now we're making it a bit easier... we're moving up 2 yrs.. hehhehe
tell me a memory from 2nd and 3rd grade?
2nd grade.. teacher Mrs Reilly.... what i remember most when i think about that class... i sat by Jimmy Hutchinson (who i was madly in love with) and he gave me a glue stick... for whatever reason I gave it to Stacy Perry ...and he was soo mad at me! another memory was our names on the board with a check by it... if we got in trouble, we got the check erased... if we got in trouble again.. our name erased... on fri if your name was there with a check you got a certificate and a dumdum sucker.... if just your name no cert.... and because of the latter story with Jimmy... that week was the one week i didn't get the certificate...(and don't think i wasn't devestated)
3rd grade....teacher Mrs Hsu.... ok... for whatever reason... not many people liked her... (she wasn't a real warm teacher maybe??) but she LOVED me (i had that tendency to want to be a people pleaser even back then!! haha)
so.. if she liked you... you'd get to stay and clean her black boards... first with the eraser.. then with the long eraser that made it really clean (oh CRAP!!...she's the one that started my ocd thing! lol)... so anyway.. i was kinda pissy one day...did NOT want to stay after school and clean her boards.. but i did it... and went out the back door rather than the one to the hallway.. the back door led directly to the front of the school. (and was really heavy..to a 3rd grader).. well... i forgot to pull my hand back... slammed my finger in the door... of course... there was no knob to open it from the outside (or it was locked??) and she was gone..so i had to pull my finger out...
ran to the office and about passed out... lost my fingernail (and of course later all the kids would run away from me screaming cuz my finger was all bruised and there was no nail!)

In the second grade I was kissed by Tony Candlearia. God was he cute. It was springtime and it was right next to a Lilac bush on our way home from school.
The third grade was my first Daddy Daughter dance and we had so much fun even though we could dance with the stars. We were ranching folks and danced country western. But we had a magical time anyhow.
I'll join in today. First grade: Tommy Hokin (sp) stole my silly putty that I brought for show and tell. He stayed in during recess cuz he was a bad boy and when I came back in from recess, it was gone from my desk. I was so upset about it, of course. He never admitted he took it so I didn't have it anymore. l
In second grade our class was giving a presentation of our new state of Hawaii and the parents came and listened to us speak something about that state. I also remember my brother being born that year and I got up for show and tell and announced it to the class. I remember that so well.

What adorable memories Jenn...
I had the best teacher in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade...her name was Mrs. Reineke and I always remember holding her had when our class would line up and follow her out to recess. She had these soft warm hands and she would keep her classroom keys on this big silver ring she'd wear around her wrist. Funny, how I sitll remember that.
In the 2nd grade I had to be moved to another classroom. She told us to pack up the contents of our little desks and sent about 6 of us to another teacher. I didn't realize what was happening and I was so sad when I learned I had a new teacher.
For me 2nd grade wasn't too memorable...but 3rd grade was awesome. Mrs. Flores was my teacher and she taught us in both english & spanish. She also got me & a few other classmates involved in a program called Olympics of the Mind...awesome program. We had to come up with a short program & long program. The long program was a 10 minute skit & the short program was a brainy thing. You were asked a question like "what is green or turns green" and then given 1 minute to think & 2 minutes to respond...you were given points based on your answers...1 point for common ones like a leaf...and 3 for creative ones like a sick man. Loved it. We placed well that year and went to nationals in Washington DC. We were the youngest team there and placed 11th overall. We had a blast....

The thing I remember most about 2nd grade was getting in trouble and having to go see the principal. Eeek!! A couple of my friends and I would fold wet paper towels a certain way and somehow you would tear a hole and blow it up and toss it at the ceiling in the bathroom and it would stick. Well, we were doing that and a teacher walked in and caught us. Busted!
Third grade....mean, mean teacher! My friend Patricia and I got in a giggle fit and couldn't stop. Ever do that and no matter what someone says you just can't quit laughing? Well, that was Patricia and me and I remember the teacher grabbing 2 chairs and sitting us both outside--one by one door and one by the other. Even after all of that we would look over at each other and not be able to stop laughing.
Funny how both memories are from getting in trouble!
In second grade I was always beating someone up for beating on my brother. I remember specifically standing on the corner after school fighting with Terry (ex best friend) getting socked in the gut because I looked sideways to see why my brother Billy was in the bushes laid out..... Needless to say Terry got pushed out into the middle of the street and I was running after Jimmy and Mickey for killing my brother.
Third grade, I had a teacher that everyone hated, so much so that they called him Terrible T. His name was Mr. Terranova. Everyone was frightened because he really pushed us. He taught us to literally fill out a 1040 tax form, and he made us memorize poetry. To this day I can hear him reading...."Two roads divurged in a yellow wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference"
I guess that is why as a profession I do bookkeeping.. lol and my favorite passtime is writing poetry...
Thanks for the question Kristin...
ahh..the poetry... we were mostly introduced to that in the 4th grade....
I must to go down to the sea again to the lonely sea and sky and all i ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by......
(couldn't remember the name... looked it up...
sea fever by john masefield.... how funny that i could remember what i DID remember and as i read the rest of the poem...i could 'feel' it as i did then (made better sense to me now as an adult now tho!!) haha
