Protein Shakes

It is a good thought to get some protein before surgery, but do know that after surgery your tastes will change. The protein I liked before surgery I could not even stomach the smell of them after. So don't go stock up on it to much. I would get sample packets and see which one you like the best after surgery. I know the vitamin shoppe will give you samples if you ask them.
Now on to the ones I like post op. My fav

Maureen... I used the pre mix WorldWide protein for a good bit after surgery, but soon started making my own in my blender. I use Designer Whey chocolate... now almost 3 years postop...still start the day w/a coffee-based shake .... ends up being a mocha protein frap, basically. LOVE IT!

Hi Maureen,
I've tried MANY protein shakes and always go back to Unjury. As someone mentioned, your tastes may change after surgery so I wouldn't buy a huge bag or can of anything prior to WLS. I didn't try any prior to surgery.
Unjury now has a great tasting Chicken Soup/Broth that has 21 grams of protein per serving. I wish they would have had this when I had surgery since the first few weeks of broth were horrible. You can order samples of all the flavors Unjury has at www.unjury.com . I have tried the Unflavored, Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry and have gone through 2 Magic Bullets! The larger ice cubes seemed to be the problem with the destruction of the Magic Bullets. I ordered 6 ice cube trays that make 96 small cubes per tray and this hasn't caused my 3rd MB to self destruct after heavy use. I bought a cheap Sunbeam knock-off at WalMart for $20 just in case my MB takes a dump. The major problem with the MB is the rubber gaskets. After awhile they become weak and will wrap around the blade unit while you are mixing. I took out the gaskets finally and so far no problem.
If you have a Smart & Final or Super Walmart you can buy Sugar Free Flavored Syrups and make whatever flavors shake you can think of. My favorite is Chocolate Unjury with SF Hazelnut Syrup. Smart & Final have their own brands of syrups now that are $3.99 for a huge bottle. Torani is $5.99 for the same size. The flavors I have noticed are SF Irish Cream, Blackberry, Banana, Caramel, Raspberry, Coffee, and more that my brain can't remember now. I also add fresh ground flax seed to my protein shakes to help with constipation. Flax is great for you but it needs to be fresh to get the full benefits. It doesn't really add any flavor but maybe a hint of nuts if anything.
Hope this helps! Sorry for writing a novel.
