Long-Term Question: Weight Gain

Hey guys, I have a quick question probably one that's been asked a thousand times but nevertheless I have to ask. I am 3 years old (wls years) and recently I gained about 14#s from my all time lowest weight. I am soooo freaked out about this . I have already started running again...it had been three weeks since I last worked out and cut out a few bad stuff from my diet (#1 being Coke zero).

I am just wondering if any of you also experienced weight gain and if  you were able to lose the pounds? I am sure I've read somewhere that most of us will experience some weight gain. Ugh, I dunno...I feel out of control with my eating and this really upsets me, I'm kinda sad because it feels like my pouchy is broken...Help anyone? Words of wisdom would be great right about now...please? Thanks!

Elisa,

I am 2.5 years out and I have gained some weight back. I can't even make myself type the number. I am doing the 5 day pouch test to get my butt back on track. EVERYONE that knows me says that I look better at this weight but like you, I am totally freaked out about it.

I have had great success with the 5 day pouch test before. My biggest mistake last time was going back to my old habits and not staying on day 6. My pouch, Herman lets me eat anything and I am an emotional eater. My life has been a roller coaster and now I am taking control. The last time I did it (and stayed on day 6 for 3 weeks), I lost 21 pounds and was at my all time lowest weight. So, it can be done.

I am not going to fail at what I have worked on so far. Good Luck and don't beat yourself up. You have done an awesome job with your weight loss. You can do anything you put your mind to!

Hi Kevin,

Day is is back to basics. Protein first and then good carbs and small amounts of fat. Here is what I read about it:

Thank you...I also found I'm an emotional eater/snacker. I don't like that one bit. :S

I am almost 4 years out and have gained about 13 pounds that I am having trouble getting off.   I know it is bad habits coming back.  Snacking at night and eating the wrong foods.  I also am having problems with my blood sugar.  Instead of being to high it is now going to low so I am eating a lot of sugar to bring it up.  This is bringing back bad eating habits as I have a big sweet tooth.  I still exercise a lot so I think that helps me keep a lot of the weight off.

I think personally, that as I get farther out I can eat more and I don't dump on a lot of the food I used to.  This for me causes the bad eating habits to come back and the weight to start creeping back on.  I feel out of control as well.  I have heard the the 5 day pouch tests works for a lot of people, I have not tried it yet, but need to.

Just hang in there and remember how far you have come.  Try the pouch test and keep up the exercise.  Maybe take an old picture of yourself before surgery and post it on the frig.  That always helps me because I hated the way I looked before.

I know exactly how you feel Laura. Those bad habits have also been creeping up on me. I have problems too with eating late at night. I am trying to gain control but I know it'll take a bit of time.
If you have the pouch test can you please post it here for me to follow? Thanks!

Totally normal....My surgeon said that weight gain is expected.  From my lowest I've gained 12 lbs.  I exercise a whole lot and I really do watch what I eat AND, I've gained?  I don't get it...LOL

As long as I continue with my health eating and exercise I've mainted at this weight the the longest time.  I'm still a size 38 without PS!  Anyhow, like I tell everyone....exercise exercise exercise! and try to identify a few items off the menu that you can take away so that you don't add additional calories.  I know, we're all in this together...good luck!

Whoa...Gus you look great man! I haven't been on here for a long while and I almost didn't recognize you.

I know, I think exercise is definitely the key. I haven't been for the last couple of weeks but I just got a membership to my local gym and I have started going. It's going to take a couple of weeks though to get myself back on track. Thanks for the support.

Hey Elisa

I have to agree with everyone else has said also throw in the fact we all getting older and that affect the way we lose or gain weight. Doing the same things we done before may not work anymore. We just have to remember that this is a fight to stay healthy. I know we tend to think that once we get to our goal weight were done. But that's not the case we have to stay on track to maintain our weight loss.

Best wishes on your journey!!
