Hi there,

I'm just starting to research and was wondering if anyone has United Healthcare EPO Select and got approved? I am waiting to hear back from them (didn't see anything on the site, just sent a note). I just ditched Kaiser this year, so I'm a bit new to UHC's system...

I haven't settled on a surgery yet, but I'm leaning towards a laproscopic RNY. Does anyone have any surgeon recommendations for the area? And better yet, any that might take my insurance? :D

Thanks

I have United Heathcare- Pacificare HMO and I was approved. They told me that if the doctor put it was medically necessary they would approve it. HTH

Roxy,

Most of the Bay Area HMO's require that you go to a "cemter of excellence" which are usually Stanford or UCSF, both excellent hospitals for WLS surgery.  I had Dr Stanley Rogers who is at UCSF and they are now testing RNY done through the MOUTH!  No lap!  Check it out, ya never know.

Hi Roxy...welcome to the boards and congratulations on taking the steps towards a healthy lifestyle..it surely is exciting. I am not familar with doctors in the bay area but with you being so close to Stanford...I am sure there are plenty of compitent surgeons in the area. There are a lot of great resources here...especially us...a lot of great bay area gals in your area who are more than willing to help you too!!!

Congratulations again!

Good Samaritan hospital in San Jose is also a Center of Excellence with top surgeon's just like Stanford ( I was a Stanford pt).

Good Sam also has a great support group for pre-ops and  post-ops alike from all different surgeries.

Congrats on your decision and welcome!
