I could not be more bummed out!
You know you think I would have learned my lesson to back up my computer when I had a cat dump a vase of water a number of years ago causing my hard drive to crash and consequently me losing my master thesis. Nope!
Let's fast forward.....last Monday I heard this crashing sound in my workspace....I walked in there to find glass all over my computer from a frame that hung above my desk. Now I cannot understand what made a heavy glass vase come tumbling, but the point is my computer would only start up and give a blank screen.
Jeff took it in to where I bought and they just called me and told me that my hard drive will not give any signals so therefore they cannot recover any information.
Flash....I got this computer right in the last 6 months or so...and I have lost all my pictures of my grandchildren that I have taken up to making those photobooks of them for their parents for Christmas.
This means Hunters 1st birthday...all the little things inbetween. I only have some pictures on my iPhone and that is it because I clear my camera card off when I get up to 500 photo's or so.
I have also lost the journals I write to them for the duration of that computer.
I could kick myself because this is more important to me than my friggin thesis was. I know it seems like it should be the other way around, but I cannot ever get those pictures back. I am just devasted and everyone in my family counts on me for photo's because why....I have only been a photographer for lets say 27 years or so.
What an ass I am.....and the point of this post....don't be stupid like me....BACK UP YOUR COMPUTER WHEN IT TELLS YOU TOO!!!

I am so sorry to hear about your 'puter and the loss of your pics. Just a suggestion, while I am not a computer expert, before you give totally up on it, I would also seek a 2nd opinion with a computer data recovery specialist. Sometimes there are things called ghost drives. I only know this because of my HR background. My hubby used to work in IT as well and told me that often there is a way to retrieve info. Just a thought.
