Shocking Dr.'s appt with test results Ugh!!

Well, It's a good thing Im scheduled for surgery on July 16th.  I sat yesterday at my 3 week before surgery internal medical dr. appt and started to freak out at my test results as to just how poor my health has become and at age 39.  It is super disappointing.

I already knew I had high blood pressure cuz Im on meds, and found at the ultrasound I had kidney stones so I had the lithotripsy to blast them away on June 11th.  However, I found out last night at the urologist that there are still bits in me so I have to keep the stent in for another 2 weeks.. yuck it feels horrible!

The new news is:  I have high cholesterol, high triglicerides, hyperparathyroidism, low calcium, very severe sleep apnea, possible cirrosis of the liver, and to top it all off, she said I turned the corner and now have diabetes.... I guess the normal # for the test I took for it is 5.9 and my test result ws 6.0 so its relatively new.

I said.. alright now that I want to slit my wrists.. would you like to up my dosage of lexapro?  but of course I was joking.  However, I am truely devastated with how poor my health has become just in the last year and a half.  I guess the good thing is that this surgery will help treat all of it but I still can't help but being upset.   I get my cpap machine early next week.. yee haa..  this just all sucks!

Thanks for letting me write about it.  I know I'll get better!  Im just praying now that my kidney stones leave the body by my next appt or I'll have to postpone the surgery :(

Im going to try to meet with the long beach group tomorrow, Im just not sure I'll be able to get there yet.  But I hope too.

At the very LEAST you know you are on your way to better health.  Please since you are already low on calcium that you make sure you are getting in your supplementation of Calcium CITRATE.  Keep your chin up!!

Hi Jackie,

I can relate to your despair at discovering how poor your health is ~ I went through the same thing~ but I want to tell you that this surgery is supposed to change all of that!

I am older than you and I wish I had done it when I was 39. Since my surgery, 5.5 weeks ago, I am already OFF the b/p meds and the cholesterol meds! I hope to lose the CPAP machine soon. My  'pre-diabetes' is also already gone,

You are the smart one, doing this at the age you are! Hang in there, your health is about to get radically better!

Thanks so much for your encouragement, I am excited to have my health radically improve and feel better in general.  Im just mad at myself for letting my health get to this.

Hugs!

Jackie,

Please don't despair.  Pre-surgery I was non-insulin type II diabetic, high blood pressure, and ashtmatic.  Within 1 week of surgery, I was off all but 1 diabetic med and my allergy pill which I take for prevention.  I very rarely need an inhaler and I've tapered off from 45 mg of diabetic med to 7mg and that will be shed with a few more lbs.

Please work on your calcium intake and you're going to do great.  You have youth on your side, I am 54 and wish I would have had my RNY 10 years ago!  But I didn't and I doubt I would have been ready for changing my lifestyle as I have now.

Hang in there, we're here for you every step of the way!

Hugs,
Barb
