I just turned in my waitlist paperwork today to Kaiser. I chose every time they have available, as I was told I would get into the program faster. Does anyone have any feedback that you can share in regards to how long you had to wait?

Thanks!

Hi,

There are many Kaiser patients on this site and each one of us have a different story.  However, it really depends on which KP facility you are planning to attend the option classes.

I began my classes January 07 and had my surgery August 07, I went through KP Bellflower.

Just hang in there, call the option office every week and check on your status on the wait list, it can't hurt to inquire.  If you choose anytime, then you should get a call soon about the classes.

I am so glad that I attend the classes, it really prepared me for the surgery.

Best of luck to you and enjoy options,

Hi,
I started my Options classes 1 month ago. I am going through Kaiser Fontana.  I got referred at the end of Jan and went to orientation at the end of Feb. In orientation i was told that it would take 3 months to find out when my classes started  but now  there is a 6 month waiting list to find out when your classes start after you go to the orientation class. I put down anytime and I got every other Friday at 930 am. After my 3 months I still had to wait a month for the actual classes to start. I heard that the night or evening classes are the most sought after. I got lucky that my job was willing to work with me. Just so you know  the classes are now only 20 weeks and just as an FYI they no longer do surgery at UCLA. This is only for the Fontana site and I know other sites are less wait but I am not sure of how long.

Hope this helps and good luck on your journey!!

Nathalie

Hi there,

I am going with Kaiser Baldwin Park and I was reffered in May and started my classes two weeks ago. Although right now at my last class they said the wait list is really long. I was fortunat to not wait so long.

So like before each persons story is different.

God bless our troops

Just wanted to welcome you.  Everyone has been on point and you'll find the wait varies.  I submitted my time slots in January and started my class in April.  Mind you it was a wait list back in the stone age when I did my classes.  I could have gotten in sooner, say early March but I didn't want to do the work juggling act, so I waited the month for the evening.

Welcome to the forum and good luck.  In the meantime, get to know yourself and your body and your triggers as it relates to food.  Start practicing ALL the things you may know about WLS, like low carbs, more protein, protein first, no drinking within 30 minutes of meals etc.  Basically use this time to your best, it makes life AFTER WLS that much easier.

I was referred in April '08 at KP Baldwin Park, went to orientation some time in May '08, and started my classes in June of '08.  I heard there is quite a waiting list now, and also that the amount of classes has been cut from 24 weeks, to 20 weeks.

Wow, the wait list seems to be all over the place! I when I talked to the Options lady last week, she told me that there are 154 people on the waitlist. When I originally called about a month and a half ago, she said it was over 200.

How big are the classes?? I am in West Covina, so I am going to Baldwin Park.

In the paperwork, it does say that 10% needs to be lost. The good thing is that it says that they recommend you start losing now and the weight lost will count towards the 10% even though my classes have not started yet.

10 YEARS...Wowza! ;) Thank goodness that isn't the deal!
