HEART BURN!

During the last month and a half or so I've developed hearth burn that will not go away.  My surgery was 6 months ago, and I'm worried.  I've started taking the left over pills that my surgeon had me take for 3 months after surgery (Prilosect) but so far it hasn't gotten rid of my heart burn.  This evening my mouth will not stop watering!  Like if you were really hungry and just sat down to your favorite meal....but worse.  This has never happened to me before and I'm worried.

I developed a drinking problem a few months ago and think maybe I've ruined my stomach.  I've quit drinking but I hope it wasn't too late!  I'm really worried. I'm so disgused with myself and if I've really hurt myself I will be even more upset.  I haven't lost any weight for 3 months because of drinking.  I'm glad I finally quit, but feel it might have been too late.  :O(

Has anyone else had a problem with heart burn?

Melissa,

I don't have a problem with heart burn, but I wanted to give you a warm hug and some encouragement.  I am so happy you realized that drinking is not the answer and won't make the real issues go away.  It's never too late to meet our addictions head on, after all, we did that when we decided to have  surgery.

Please call your surgeon tomorrow and get in there to see him/her.  If you can't see the surgeon, call your primary care.  Symptoms of heart burn can be underlying symptoms from something else and it's better to know than to guess.

Hugs and support,
Barb

I could not have said it batter than what Barb has just said!
I dealt with heart burn since I was 14 years old  and no, I was no over wright , I was the skinny kid everyone teased! But I had horrible GERD and ACID REFLEX and I still take Nexium daily and I am afraid to stop. I have only  had heart burn twice since my WLS but it also reduces the acid in my bladder which cause severe Interstitial cystitis pain. and that is why I continue to take it.
As for your drinking ...it happens to a lot of WLS patients...it is trading one addiction for another...food for booze in other words. Here is my advise, seek counseling!! There is no shame in asking for help!!

Hugs and luck and call your Dr.

Thanks guys!

I had heart burn for quite a while before surgery and after surgery it went away....but started up again after I started drinking so I thought I must have just gave myself ulcers or something.  I'm so worried.  I've been putting off going back to the surgeon because it's such a pain in the butt.  I am in weekly therapy now and she's really good.

I suggest the you call the doctor.  You need to make sure you are not on your way to an ulcer.  Going to the doctor may be a pain in the butt, but that pain isn't going to be as bad as you are going to have if you don't take care of yourself. now call!!!!

good luck, Diane

You did the right thing and stopped drinking. I had  a little heart burn right after surgery for a month or so but it has gone away. Dr. Suh still has me on the Prilosec OTC and will be for a while I guess. I am also just 6 months out and have hit a stall thank god.

I would call Dr. Suh's office and get in there. This could be a serious problem and the sooner that they get on it, the better your chances are to get it resolved.

Have a great day........Rick

I know this is easeir said then done for some people but never be afraid to ask for help.  That means calling your therapist and your doctor and being PROACTIVE about your body.  What you have done for the last 3 months is a mere blip on the screen of the next 40-50-60 whatever years of your life.

I was going to ask if anything changed about your diet cause sometimes ti's the new foods or different things that we have introduced to our systems that our bodies rebel against.  So if you FEAR ulcers it's time to go to the doctor and get your stomach checked out.  It can't hurt to KNOW what's going on, if not you walk around NOT knowing and can be doing more harm then good.

You are taking responsibility NOW...keep up the awesome job, this journey is never ending with the discoveries we make about ourselves but we can't live in fear of the unknown now that we are altered.  We MUST be proactive about our bodies and our health.

Thanks guys!

I guess I better give Dr. Suh's office a call.  I don't want to keep putting it off until it's really bad.  I guess I'm just too embarrassed to admit that I was drinking for 3 months...pretty heavily.  :O(  I know it's a no-no and even though it completely stopped my weight loss dead in it's tracks, I continued to poor myself glass after glass of rum.  :O(

WHY? And it might not even been that bad....maybe just normal and will go away, like it did before.....*I hope*

Thanks again everyone!
