Have been reading and rereading my bariatric patient info book.........but wanted to ask what protein supplements you guys use.  Are there ones with higher protein and better taste?

Getting ready for Sept 16th surgery date countdown.
Thanks!

My faves are

1. Unjury @ www.unjury.com . You can get samples for $1.75 each before you buy a full canister.
2. Click (espresso/coffee based with caffeine) @ http://www.drinkclick.com/
3. Matrix 5.0 @ www.bariatriceating.com (chocolate, simply vanilla and cookies & cream)
4. AchievOne @ www.bariatriceating.com (Hazelnut vanilla)

All have  15-20 grams of protein per serving. Hope this helps... =)

Just wanted to let you know, someone I dont know havent met, but have read some of your posts that you have helped me so much already and you too dont know me. I was just thinking how wonderful that is and such a blessing too, to be able to help one another so much and yet never to have met.  Okay so first of all it was with your list of best protein drinks ie. above with websites that you posted, great help for me as I havent gotten any yet and was wondering the same as the person  who posted it out there. So it was a big help for me and I have checked them all out. Cant thank you enough, and yet I should know this but even with the 6 months of nutrition classes still feel like you dont know anything or dosnt really make sense or sink in until when. Well for me I dont have a date yet insurance approved but havent dont a date yet or pre op tests that should be next in order. Im going to try and reach my Drs. office this week and find out more.

Secondly, I saw just a bit about you going to Las Vegas and that you volunteer or something like that so already know you are an angel, didnt even matter whether I read the story and details or not just know you are so special.
But then I just happened to come across Dan's post of what seems to be some terrible things that have happened to him through surgergies and trama things. But you again posted a response and I again was relieved to see your response.
So I want to just say thanks for so much of sharing your own experiences, it is helping me so much. I had thought all along I wanted a Lap Band mostly because less evuasive procedure, but then reading so much of posts and think about RNY too know. I find myself more confused the more I know and read. Im also as most everyone afraid, Im afraid to even try and set a date (fear of the unknown) Im honest I admit it and I fear it and cant seem to be able to face it. I know this is for me to come to terms with. And then I still have so many questions as we all do.
But again you have helped me just in your responses and the person you seem to be and share with the posts.

By the way, you look lovely in your pictrs. I was right about the angel maybe a Princess Angel and thats just fine with me.!!!!!!!!!  Hugs, MK

As far as protein powder, I use one from Trader Joes. It is choclate & I make my protein shakes out of it. You might want to try Slim Fast Low Carb, they are the blue cans & come in Choc & Vanilla. To make things more interesting, you can mix some Sugar Free Orange Jello "the powder" and the Slim Fast Vanilla, to make taste like a cremesicle. Yummy!

Good Luck!

Hey Deb...good to see you are still posting!

I was introduced to IDS Sport Protein power by a gal from the Elk Grove support group...Belgian Chocolate! IDS has 24g of protein and I mix it with Silk Soy milk..which adds another 7g of protein for a total of 31g per shake.  Can buy it thru VitaLady.com.  I tried Costco Kirkland chocolate powder but wasn't too enthused after using the Belgian.

Be sure to check your binder....I don't think Fremont allows caffeine...I know Richmond doesn't.  Be sure to read the ingredient label....caffeine can be 'hidden' sometimes LOL
Good Luck!

I use IDS 100% whey protein bullets. They have 42 grams of protein in a bullet and I usually dilute them with 32 ounces of water. They taste like gatorade, no protein aftertaste whatsoever, no powdery taste or anything. I have one every day and then any other protein I manage to get is on top of the minimum 42 I always get. I get the grape flavor because it's tastiest.

Hi Deb, I like the isopure and isopure plus protein water. I order them from GNC.  Just make sure you get the ones that have 0 sugar and carbs.  They also have a powder you can mike with water that taste like a shake that is low in carbs and sugar.

Hi Debbie,

I love the Unjury protein and have bought it since my surgery in Jan.  I recently bought Trader Joe's, whey protein and a big bag of whey protein from Costco.  It all tastes the same to me, but I am one that doesn't have a finicky pallette.   Since I was a kid I haven't liked fruit flavored drinks (love real fruit juiced but don't drink it anymore) so I was never attracted to the protein bullets or fruit type drinks.  I love coffee, so the Click drink works for me and my surgeon ok'd caffiene so I enjoy that too.

With the chocolate/vanilla whey protein powders, if you mix it with skim milk, you will get in about 36+ grams of protein in.

Hope that helps.  If you want to try a sample of what I have let me know and I will arrange to get them to you.

Hugs,
Barb

You guys are awesome!  I had picked up some Designer Whey which has 18g per 100 calories.
But not thrilled with the taste.  Also got some stuff you put in water that is 30 calories per 5 grams protein.  I will be trying the ones you guys are using and stock up!
Thanks so much for all of your input and support!
