I am curious to know if anyone has ever attended a “cash for gold" party. If you don’t know what it is, basically it’s a party where everyone brings the gold they have laying around and walks out with cash. Those tangled or broken gold chains, charms you thought were cute (or someone else thought were cute..lol), that half pair of earrings that you still can’t find the other half you lost. I hear it’s a great way to get rid of stuff that you probably will never wear again, and get paid for it, especially with the economy the way it is and the holidays coming up. I know someone who had one and the average person walked away with over $400!!!   I heard that they pay 20%-80% higher than most shops that by jewelry.

I’m thinking of doing one for a fundraiser for the APLA Aids Marathon and was just wondering if anyone’s heard of these or attended one before.   Thanks!

I attended one about a month ago at my cousin's house.  Basically, the guy has 3 plastic containers : one for 14k, 18k and 24k a scale and a stack of money.  You sit down and put all of your gold on the table.  He separates them according to karat wt. and measures them,  does the calculations, and hand you the cash.
I walked in with two pairs of earrings and a single earring and walked out with $45.   The whole process only took minutes.

If you are going to throw one on these, I have a number that you can call.  Oh yeah, be sure to have some finger foods and drinks out.  They always helps.

I went to one and got about $250...ditto what Kim said about the "process"!

gold parties create an opportunity for friends to have a fun night together while also earning a little cash. the host simply asks friends to come over on a certain date and to bring along any unwanted jewelry items, old coins, or other estate items that are made of gold, silver, or platinum.  sell gold
