Found My Way - Day 10

Yesterday I set some goals for myself, and was very well intentioned to follow those goals and then life has a way of happening.  A brush fire broke out near my home and due to the rugged terrain and the curves in the road, it appeared closer to my home than it actually was.  It was about 3-4 miles away but all of our nerves were rattled just the same.  There were 10 tankers flying over, the Air Force Base where my husband and daughter work was evacuated, and of all days for my husband to not have his cell phone with him.

So because of this panic, I did not focus on me, or on food.  I ate lunch at 3pm after I picked my children up from school, I needed them home and safe with me.   We had leftovers for dinner and I was just on the go all day.  I did hike up a hill in the wildlife area behind our house so I could look at the fire, and I ran around all day, so that was my exercise.

Today was calm, but the fire flared up again, so I have been on edge all day.  Running outside to watch the smoke and just see if things change.  Nothing has changed, so all is good.  And again I have hardly eaten anything.  I had two apples and a banana as my breakfast and lunch, then I just ate some chili.  Not the best eating for today and yesterday, but it was not junk food, just not enough food.  I am ok, my family is ok, and we just need the fire to be put out so we can all relax.

Maybe I need a high stress job so I won't have time to focus on eating!  Just kidding. I don't like stress, and it makes my ulcers go nuts.

OH!  I almost forgot.  We made the cookies last night and I did not eat any!!!! I did not even lick the delicious looking batter off my finger.   When the cookies were done my girls were prompting me to taste them and I refused. I talked to my daughter about not eating the junk, and she got sad and said "does that mean I can't eat any cookies at school?" (her entire class is bringing cookies and milk) I told her that she can certainly have cookies at school, but to not overdo it, moderation is the key, eat a couple cookies and that is it, do not eat 10 cookies.  She agreed that would be good and that she would not eat too many, so we'll have to see how she did with her challenge.   I was so happy that I did not give in and did not eat the cookies.

I guess my lesson learned today was that stress does not have to be a reason to grab junk food.  I grabbed apples and that was a good choice for me.

Yeah!!!!!  You did it Deanna, and I knew you could.  I certainly understand about the fires and air tankers.  We are in their flight path where I live and today I called my hubby to find out where the fire was, they were up and flying again.  I told him they were headed towards the mountains, well sure enough, it was about two miles from here.  Scares me, because I can't get into my car and drive and I was here alone.  Anyway, I prayed that you did good on the cookie thing, and I am so proud of you.  You are doing a great job, and look already day 10.

Way to go......Diane

You did great! You did great at teaching your daughter about moderation too!  I hope the fires don't come closer to your home.  So. CA. has had a bad fire season again this year!
