Hi, all.  I had my RNY on 09/29/09(1 week, 2 days) I feel really well.  I came home on a Thursday and was back at work full time the following Monday.  No pain at all, I can even sleep on my tummy already!  My problem is...PROTEIN!  I cannot stomach the stuff.  I have tried so many different types and I literally gag trying them.  I know that if I can find something that agrees with me, I will feel so much better.  I have been tired the last few days, and feel hungry right about 3pm and on.  More than anything, I don't want to jeopardize my heart and other muscles. I just don't know what else to try.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I will try them all!(unless I already have).  Thank you so much in advance!

Protein is a "personal" type of item, as you have to like the taste. And not everyone's taste is the same. I found a generic whey isolate unflavored protein. It dissolves very easily in fluids and I add it to SF puddings or oatmal, make my own shakes, or add to other foods. It's noted on my profile page, $20 for 38 of the 25 gr servings. I've mixed it with SF pudding and brought it to support meetings, where it's well received. I also add it to other protein enriched fruit smoothies for a higher protein level. DAVE

I saved myself when I discovered decaf, skinny lattes at Starbucks. A venti size has 16 grams of protein in a 160 calories. I love the vaniila, but my friend who had sufgery too ,oves the cinnamin dolce. I still have at least one every day.

Good luck,

Greetings,

Like Dave said, protein is a personal taste and everyone is different. For me, the best protein that worked for me is Nectar Protein. You can buy online or at the Vitamin Shoppe...Comes in tons of different flavors and disolves instantly in eater and to me it tastes great.

I havent tried their chocolate flavors and such so they may be a little thicker and thats what gets me is the thickness of the protein drinks. My favorite is the Caribean Cooler (tastes like a Pina Colada) and isnt thick.............Hope this helps

Have a great day...............Rick

Thank you everyone for the responses.  I went to vitalady this morning and ordered a bunch of samples.  I think the thickness may be exactly what makes me sick.  I also went to Starbucks...I can see this one adding up fast!  I dont even care, as long as it gets some protein in me.  I really appreciate the input, I hope my vitalady samples come quickly so I can start on something!

Hi, Here's my imput on protein. I am almost 2 years out and am still doing protien shakes as much as I can. Almost daily. I know for me if I don't have it I tend to eat more durning the day...that is not good.

As far as powders go I use the GNC brand whey protein, it desloves wonderfully and they have alot of different flavors.

As for starbucks I usally get the light carmel frappe with 2 scoops of protein. Not to sure how much protein but it is good. It is protein!!!

I hope this helps!

Live everyday like there is no tomorrow!!

I really like Unjury.  www.unjury.com.  My NuT says its the best.  I don't really need them as I am getting all of my protein from food which is part of my doctor's protocol, but do keep it on hand at work and home for in a pinch, and take them when I travel just in case.  You can mix it with water or milk, or add it to just about anything.  I really like the chicken soup flavor and the sample paks travel and store really well.  All the best to you!

I use the Wellements brand that I get at Costco and if they don't have it I buy it online.  In the Vanilla cream flavor.  I mix it with Special K protein water (strawberry Kiwi) and that gives it a great flavor.  And I'm 13 months out so I mix mine with frozen fruit or Yoplait Smoothie mix to make a fruit smoothie I have every morning for breakfast.  When your doctor puts you on fruits you can try that, but for now try mixing it with Crystal Lite or the Special K protein water.
