Baby Brianna's Going Home!!
Yes!!! Can you believe it?? My son called last nite and wanted to know if I was heading to Stanford today..I'm not...and wanted to ask that we wait until next weekend..when we can go to their apartment and meet her!!!
She has been in the 'regular' nursery since last Wednesday ...taking in about 25ml of a combined breast milk/formula from a bottle and the rest (about 45ml) thru the feeding tube as she is still having a swallowing problem..but not enough to keep her in the hospital! Today Mel and Patrick will be in a 3hour training class (which is why I'm not going up today) to teach them how to feed her and all the rest of the care she will need. Docs want to send her home by Tuesday but Patrick says they need to 'stall' the release until Wednesday, preferrably Thursday, at the earliest...something to do with Brianna not qualifying for SSI if she isn't in the hospital for a minimum of 30 days. So Pat says he and Mel will play 'dumb' when it comes to mastering the feeding techniques LOL
Bri was 6.7lbs when born, dropped to 5.4lbs after surgery..but since she has been drinking regularly and also being fed thru the feeding tube, she is back up to 6.3lbs and the docs say they are very pleased with her progress and expect it to continue without a hiccup ^_^ Pat is really pleased (to put it mildly LOL) with Stanford and the case worker they have been assigned. They would be lost in a forest of red tape and bureacracy if wasn't for her..she has handled his work issues, insurance, and now the home care and follow up doc visits..moving all of them to UC Davis which is so much closer to home.
As you can imagine, I'm dying to see her but will be patient for 1 more week. I am just thankful to my Lord above that she has survived this horrible ordeal...and I'm sure some day we will understand His plan for her...and why she needed to go thru this. But then again, maybe this wasn't about her at all...maybe she was the catalyst that God provided for Patrick and I to get beyond our estrangement and connect once again as mother and son...after all, He does work in mysterious ways...and we will never have the understanding of them...but then, do we really need to if we get the Message???
Hopefully, I will have pictures to include next week...I'm going to put up a couple of Brianna and her big brother Dylan and 1 of Bri just after surgery...in My Oh space..that way you only have to look if you want to ^_^ LOL
I am so excited...and so so grateful for this wonderful miracle..and my new baby granddaughter is coming home!!! Yipppppeeeeee!

Praise God!
What a wonderful thing to hear. I cannot imagine how happy everyone is. Poor Brianna had a little bump in the road in lifes path, and it happened when she was so young, but she will end up being healthy, and she will be fine. I always remember a kid in my grade school who had a hole in his heart as a kid and how he was never different than anyone else when we went to school. It's great, and medicine has come so far.
I can't think of better news on the Lords day.
Love u, Diane

Thanks Diane...love you too!! I admit to tearing up when I think what a beautiful miracle she is and that we will have her with us for what I pray is a very very long time.
Of course, I chuckle thinking of Dylan, her big brother. He thinks, at 4years old, that he rules the roost...just wait until lil sister gets her bearings LOL She has started life out as a fighter...and the look in her eyes says she's not giving up anytime soon ^_^
Thanks again for thinking of me and Brianna....I am sooooo excited about this great news.
Hugs!

Congratulations Nancy! I am huge believer in the power of prayer, and I believe the outpouring of prayers and good throught sent heavenward for Baby Brianna were answered. Congratulations to Patrick and your DIL. Mel. They must be estatic to finally have their family together.
Sounds like Bri is doing fantastic in the feeding department. That is awsome. I totally agree that God works in mysterious ways, and we just have to trust in Him. He will do things in His time, not ours. We may not understand why we go through certain trials at any given time, but it will be revealed in time. I am so happy to hear of yours and Pat's reconcilliation. I hope as time goes on, your whole family will be blessed even more. I continue to keep you, Lon and your whole family in my thoughts and prayers.
Much love,
