New to CA forum, not OH
I can't believe it's taken so long for me to make my way over to the CA forum! I am a regular "lurker" on the RNY, Lighweights and R&R boards, but I rarely post unless I can really give some good input.
I am scheduled for surgery on 12/16, but I got a call today from the surgeons office asking if I wanted to move it up to 11/26... only problem is my company is shutting down the last 2 weeks of the year so the 12/16 dates works perfectly there. The down side... 12/19 is my sons first birthday and I am feeling extremely selfish and totally bummed that I may be in the hospital still.
I know this surgery will make me healthier and keep me around for my son a lot longer than not doing it... I'm sure he'll forgive me.
So... Hi... and I look forward to getting to know you all and hopefully meeting some people from my area in the future!

Hi Renee,
Welcome to the CA Forum. I live around 30 miles south from you in Santa Cruz. Where are you getting your surgery done? El Camino hospital has a good monthly support/education group. El Camino is in Mountain View.
Congratulations on your upcoming surgery date. Don't feel guilt about your little guy's birthday. He will come to understand why this surgery was important.
This is a very supportive forum. A lot of great folks here. Ask questions, ask for support and you will get a great response.
Best Regards,
MsBlues

Thank you! I'm having my surgery in So. San Francisco through Kaiser. I believe the El Camino support group is in my binder, I'll definitely have to make my way over!
I know he'll understand, it's just hard to get over this feeling. A year ago on 12/19 I was in the hospital having an emergency c-section to save both of our lives, and this year I'll be there saving my life... how strange is that?
Anywho, thanks for the welcome!

Welcome Renee
Congrats on getting your surgery date even if I'm a little confused as to which one you took ;-) Look for 2Barb's posting regarding a fun luncheon we hold in Concord (don't know how far away that is for you but it's worth any drive). The next one is Nov 21 at MiMi's. Look forward to getting to know you and giving support on your journey

Welcome, welcome, welcome Renee~
I am in San Jose, so not to far from you. Small world~Dr. Alami was a fellow at Stanford when I was going there!! Nice eye candy, huh?!
Chances are you will be home for your son's birthday, so don't worry. You are not being selfish. You are doing what you need in order to be here to see him to grow up and have many more birthdays.
I wish you luck on your journey. We are moving over on the losers bench to make room for you, no matter what date you decide on. PM me if you have questions or you need a cheerleader!!

Dr. Alami is great and seems to have a good bed side manner???
I've read some people can go home the next day, others up to 3 to 4 days later. My sister suggested taking him to Build a Bear since I'll have to walk anyway and there is one at the mall near my home.
Thanks for making room! I'd love to be able to do it on 11/26 (Thanksgiving!), but the boss is in Korea right now and there is no way I can take another 2 weeks off being my company is shutting down at the end of December.
BTW... I was capt of my cheer team in HS, LOL... let's cheer together!
