Eating around the holidays!

Being almost 4 years out, I CAN EAT throughout the entire day if I want. How am I going to manage food around the Thanksgiving holiday?
1. I will continue with my workouts and plan to wake up early and hit the gym around 7am before visiting family.
2. I'm going to have a high protein breakfast with fiber and drink lots of water throughout the day.
3. When it's dinner time, I do plan to eat and taste the specialty foods Anna's grandmother makes. But, I'll always remember to fill up on the good stuff first.
4. Today, I'm a calorie counter so I'll be watching them suckers....I personally don't like to feel horrible at the end of the day and remind myselft for the 10,000 time..."tomorrow is a new day".
5. I do not plan to take left overs home except for turkey and veggies to make salads, sandwiches, etc.
6. What about dessert? Yes, I will have a small piece and that's it...The thought of my strenuous workout will remind me to stop!
How about you?
this very thought has already crossed my mind this month, and it will also be my first Thanksgiving since surgery. I plan on sticking to the basics, and eating protein first, with some veggies mixed in there as well. Desert, well that's pretty easy for me since I've never really been a sweets person. I do plan on taking home some turkey, ham, and any other foods that I can benefit from. I know I'll be in for a good workout the day after, and probably for that whole weekend, but it'll be worth it.
That's a great plan Gus. I have managed not to gain any weight over the Holiday for the last year, and I will continue not to gain any this time. I make sure I really stick to basics the day before and the day after, I should say DAYS. That way when it comes down to eating a little poorly for one day I can. I do not deprive myself of dessert if I want. As soon as I do that, then I will have an arguement in my head and will get angry. So I indulge as much as I like. Remember if you fall off the wagon, you just get back on it.
Enjoy the Holidays! You and Anna have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Love U both, Diane

Great topic Gus! Better to start planning now than be sorry later ;-)
We are going to be in Washington with family; taking the m/h will take some of the stress of what to eat away.
1. Pack the m/h with lots and lots of protein food in addition to my protein powder. There will NO ROOM for leftovers ^_^
2. Since my food portions are still quite small (1/2-3/4c), I will follow the age-old rules...3 bites protein, 1 bite veggies...I DO NOT need the carbs!
3. I will ALWAYS have a bottle of Propel in my hand when I am awake LOL Seriously, drinking my water will have priority as well as getting my vitamins in daily.
4. And finally, when the temptation just gets too great...I'll go outside, take the dogs for a walk and take a deep deep breath.
5. And if I do give into temptation...it is what it is...and I will NOT beat myself up...this is a Lifetime journey..not just the Holidays ^_^
Fortunately, all of Lon's family saw me in August; they know what I am trying to accomplish and nobody trys to sabotage my efforts...if I say 'no thank you', no one trys to get me to change my mind...Thank Goodness!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Gus..and thank you for starting this thread...so appropo !

Great topic Gus,
I am like Javi, this will be my first Holiday Season since I had my surgery. My problem is that I do all the cooking for the family and am suppose to have more family visit. I do know my limitations and it is going to be a challenge.
I have already figured out how to make sugar free pumpkin pie and the family is just going have to deal with it LOL. I am just afraid of all the left overs. The family can have most of it but I want the turkey. High in protein and just plain good LOL
Have a great day.......Rick
