"Stop being a 'wimp', and just run already!!"

"wimp" is the PG version of that phrase. I know this is a family site. :)

So when I started running, Kirsten ran my first 10k with me. I was grumpy, tired, cold....just not feeling it.  So, Kirsten.....in the most loving and thoughtful way she could think of took it upon herself to inspire me and SCREAMED...

"Stop being P U $ $ Y and just run!"

It has become our mantra.

Today I was looking around the net for stuff and came upon these quotes on a running website. I thought they were really cool, and you don't have to be a runner to be inspired by them. Running in many ways is a metaphor for life and for this weight-loss journey we are on. Battling obesity is its own long-distance sport that is not for the faint of heart. So enjoy these quotes, and please add your own if there's one that you'd like to share.

"Anybody can do just about anything with himself that he really wants to and makes his mind to do. We are capable of greater than we realize." - Norman Vincent Peale, author

"Running is a big question mark that's there each and every day. It asks you, 'Are you going to be a wimp or are you going to be strong today?'" - Peter Maher, Irish-Canadian Olympian and Sub-2:12 marathoner

"If you ever get a second chance in life for something, you've got to go all the way." - Lance Armstrong

"The man who can drive himself further once the effort gets painful is the man who will win." - Sir Roger Bannister

"You have to forget your last marathon before you try another. Your mind can't know what's coming." - Frank Shorter

Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

- George S. Patton, U.S. Army General, 1912 Olympian

To run? Or to run a marathon?

Yes.....those were my famous words.  But I think your memory is a bit foggy.  I don't think it was during the 10k.  I remember it being when you and Kimmie joined Kevin and i for your first "double digit" run.  We were on the bike path in Long Beach, weren't we?

Either way....that was pretty damn funny!

You are correct, Kirsten.

Hi Monica,

Today was our "graduation" 5k for that running program I joined through A Snail's Pace.  We ran a 5K in Irivine.  January the next class starts and we will complete a 10k.  OMG I love running, it isn't easy and I am not a fast runner, but I really love it.  There was part where we had to run up an incline and I was dying and there was a guy in a wheelchair on the sidelines and he says to me "you can do it, your doing good job".  Awwww.

So maybe one of these days I can run with you guys.  Hope all is well and hopefully I will see you at the LB Coffee on the  19th.
 Tiny
