Surgeon info for Mir Ali, M.D. (new to boards)

Good morning,

I am in the earliest stages of researching the gastric bypass surgery.  Any help/advice/websites to read would be *greatly* appreciated.  I researched this surgery years and years ago when it was till a fairly new proceedure and I am sure things have since changed. 

A friend of mine has recommended a surgeon in Fountain Valley, CA by the name of Mir Ali, M.D.  Has anyone else had their surgery performed by this doctor?  How was the recovery?  How much was the surgery (I don't have insurance but I have a means to pay cash)?

First let me say welcome to the cali board, you will gain alot of knowledge here..

I had Dr Ali and many other post op's here have had him as well. As for me I LOVE him, He was wonderful. I had no complications and my recovery was awesome. I have had no problems at all. I think out of all the doctors he is the best!! HE is very quite spoken, but such a wealth of information. He is fabulous. I have to say that when I was in the hospitial he came and say me everyday and when I go in for my appointments I always saw him(not the PA). Good Luck!!

I had Dr. Ali as my surgeon and I think he is wonderful! Very caring and kind and patient. I still go every year for my follow up ( had surgery in 2005) and I never feel rushed. He is always willing to spend the extra time with you to answer any questions you may have.

I'm not sure on the cost, as insurance paid mine.

Hey honey! I just saw this, so sorry it took me so long to reply! I am planning to go to Tom's early, but won't be able to stay too long because we have other plans later that afternoon. I'm guessing I will be there from like 10-12? What time do you figure you guys will pull in? I hope to see you! Life has been hectic lately!

I have to ditto what Willa (mommyluvs2) had to say - Dr. Ali is the best.  He did my surgery on 8/20/07 and like Willa, no complications, no problems, very little pain and so on - all I can say is the big key os to follow the Drs protocol and do what he says.  Which I did....I am down almost 150lbs since surgery and love life now more than ever.

Don't be a stranger here on the Cali boards - there truly is a wealth of information and support.  But if you do choose Dr Ali I don't think you will be sorry at all...
