Spent Turkey day in the Hospital
Had my gall bladder out on Monday and was doing great Or so I thought. Lot of pain in my right shoulder which was from an air bubble I had to absorb. Wednesday morning I woke up and the should er pain was gone but there was a very sharp pain in my lower right side. I did not like it at all. Very very sharp. Then the sharp pain moved up to the gall bladder area and the area behind my belly button. Concerned enough to put in a call to the doctor's office exchange. While waiting for them to call I laid down to take a nap. There was no pain while lying down so I dropped off for a 2 hour snooze.
However, woke up at 5 mad that I missed my hair cut appointment. But even madder that my guts hurt even worse than before. Cold, clammy sweating profusely. Woke the old man up and told him to take me to the ER. NOW. We get there and that's yet another cluster truck story. Once I get in there, they set me up for a contrast cat scan which shows a partial bowel obstruction. Possibly due to an adhesion from my previous hysterectomy.
In the mean time I'm puking up bile like there's no end. They're giving me anti nausea meds by the bucketfull. And then ship me of to nuclear meds for a 1 hour hippa scan to make sure the gall bladder incistion wasn't leaking. Nope, all good.
By this time Dr. Nichols shows up and explains our options. He put an NG tube down my NOSE!!! I took hm off my Christmas list for that one! The nurses all knew I needed one but he was the only one allowed to put in an NG tube in a RNY patient!.
They prepared me for another contrast cat scan. I drank some stuff Thursday night and again Friday morning. The CT scan showed the partial blockage was still there We could try and wait and see if it resolved (all with that *$(#($*%( tube up my nose) or he could go in laproscopy and fix it. Fix it. So, Friday night aroung 8 pm he went in and found 4 adhesions to my bowel. Didn't have to resect the bowel or anything just release the adhesions.
I even tried to bribe the doctors..............first one to take the tube out of my nose gets a dozen of my world famous chocolate chip cookies! funny thing is the anesthesiologist was Dr Steve Nichols brother to my surgeon Dr. Mark Nichols. And their dad and other brother are orthopods. Go figure - a family thing!
I am home, doing better and actually feeling great.
After my RNY the adhesions and bowel obstruction were able to keep up with the activity without much problem. Apparently after the gallbladder thing it was too much for it all to handle and it started backing up. Good news is I didn't lose any bowel. Better news is I'm feeling fantastic. Even better news is I NEVER want another tube down my nose. Yuck.
Bet your turkey day was way better than mine! I did get lots of rest finally after they got the pain tucked away and they gave me atavan. but, sleeping sitting straight up at a 40degree angle sucks. I am soooooo glad to be home.

Holy Crap! My day sucked, but YEP, yours was by far worse than mine. I cannot imagine the hose down the nose thing, they tell you to swallow my ass! I am so sorry that you are better. I am hoping for you, that this is it.
I certainly understand the sleeping at 40 degrees. I have been sleeping in a recliner for 5 weeks. I tried the bed last night and work up 2 hours later in pain. Crap, I don't know what I am going to do, we are leaving town for a wedding on Tuesday and I am staying in a hotel, guess it will take alot of drugs to make me feel no pain. Also, if there is a medical supply place near you, most of them sell a foam like triangle that you can raise you head on, I don't know if it's 40 degrees but you might what to check into it.
Take good care,
Hugs, Diane

Let me tell you the hose down the nose thing sucks royally! I'd rather have a root canal with minimal anesthesia! Swallow my ass...........you're right - that thing just aint going where they want it to! And I have such a low gag reflex. All I had to do is think about the damn thing back there dancing where my tonsils used to dance and YURP! ugh. Last nigth I got to sleep all curled up in a ball on my bed. My boys brought my snuggly pillow
We have some of those reclining chair and 1/2 and they streatch out pretty good while giving support. My hubby slept in his chair for 9 weeks straight after his shoulder surgery.
When we got to the er on Wed, there I was, in mega pain, I'm pale, clammy, crying could barely stand and they say............... fill out this paper and have a seat. WTF>>> I told hubby to give them 5 minutes and then go outside and call an ambulance to meet him in the parking lot with me I'm not playing this game. They got me into triabe and then tried to send me back out to the waiting room to.....wait. lucky for me I had stripped off my sweatshirt and was so hot I passed out on the floor. What a cluster
