Good Friday Morning Cali
Well here we are 09....and it is Friday!!!! I cannot believe for the live of me how quickly time flys!!!
Yesterday I had the hugest Italian extravaganza at my house. I made 13 dozen ravioli's...2 different kind, meat sauce, browned butter and sage too for the butternut rav's, made biscotti's, made killer good French bread....had a great antipasta spread. Had my family and friends here and was the best way I ever rang in a new year. Here are some of the yummiest rav's you will ever eat...all hand made....no pasta machine either:
butternut squash ravs with butter/sage sauce and then these are riccota ravs with Italian sausage meat sauce:
I was slow going at first because we had gone out the night before. It was fun, but yesterday was more fun being with my family and friends in my home.
Imagine my house does not even look like a cyclone hit it as my boys basically cleaned everything up. My friend Barb said look at your boys cleaning...I told her that they always do this when there is especially a big spread.
Also yesterday was a good day because my boys have not broken bread together so to speak at a dinner at my house in a long time. They had been fighting for months and it really took a toll on all of us...I want to say especially me because as mom, I wanted to fix it. Another friend of mine said to step back and let them work it out. The eventually came to a meeting of the minds. I also thought that it would be their children who would make them work it out as I have repeatedly told them that when I am gone, you two are only going to have each other and what family you have built.
So I am saying here that I could have not asked for anything more in this year but to have my family have unity.
I tell you, if the start of my year is an indication of what type of year I am going to have, I know I am off to an excellent start!
So tell us...what was your New Years like so far? Did you spend it with family and friends? I know some of you had to work....yuck! If you have a 4 day weekend..what are your plans? Come on spill it gang!!!!
Have a wonderful day!!!

OMG does that food look good or what - your post almost made me cry just understanding how you must have felt to have your boys mend things.....wow what an awesome thing for the new year. As for me yesterday all I did was put away all of the christmas decos and clean house....then watched "Momma Mia" OMG if you haven't seen that movie you HAVE TO - it is great and I was actually dancing in my living room, all by myself, at the end of the movie (hey thats exercise right). THen I cooked a turkey breast for dinner and it was actually a great day....
TOday brings another day closer to my plastics....omg I still can't believe it. I am going out to TOrrance today to spend the day with my BFF out there and we will visit another friend who is very sick with pancreatic cancer (to sad) and then have lunch and do some shopping.
THis is gonna be one awesome year - I JUST KNOW IT......
Everyone have a great Friday
Hugs to all
PS - Steve thanks so much for keeping those totals....Can't wait to hear what next year brings since we have so many newbies getting ready for surgery....woo hoo. Steve you are the bomb.....
Well ya spent yesterday at work, but everyone loved all the goodies I took in and that felt good. Today I am off, but I work the weekend. So ya no plans what so ever for the New Year. Just going to try to make it better. Happy to say today is much of nothing day. Weekends always suck at work so I am resting up.
Glad things went good yesterday Janine and the food OMG it looks so good!!!

Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations.
I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty,
believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

What a wonderful spread you put out Janine! Your home made ravioli's are the BOMB woman!!! And very pleased to hear you had a family united to start the new year. That is a wonderful way for a Mom to feel. I know my Mom suffered greatly over the years when brother Bob was estranged from the family for years at a time. Thankfully the last 10 years of his life we were together and I know he and I had many conversations that I believe helped him come to terms with our family dynamics, particularly his rocky relationship with our brother Walter
We had the best New Year day at Mom's yesterday. Just the four of us (D, Mom, brother Walt and myself) and had a delish brunch followed by lot's of chat and laughs, taking down and putting away their Christmas decorations, harvesting 47 avocados and a dozen grapefruit from their trees and walking the property for a landscaping project they would like me to do. Since I got my property done this past autumn I can use a new canvas and palette to work with!

I was expecting to wake up with a wicked hangover as I really overdid the vodka yesterday! Well, actually we started with Mimosa's to toast the new year when we got there at noon and I switched to vodka/Coke Free after brunch. Too many hours of drinking! D wisely chose to drive us home when we left at 6. LOL But I feel fine this morning... or I am still high, not sure which!

Today D is off to work and I am taking down and putting away OUR Christmas decorations. That'll take most of the day! Looking forward to the house being back to normal and the feeling 2009 is finally underway.
Hope everyone has a terrific Friday and wonderful first weekend of 2009!

Janine sounds like you had a wonderful Day! Wow and all that cooking. Me, lazy day, Jus****ched TV and rested. They had the twilight Zone Marathon on yesterday and I was not feel well. I think I came down with a bit of the flu or something, or just worn out from how busy the holidays have been. I feel much better today! Steve so glad to hear you had a great time. You can always come and landscape my house! l ol It would be a huge life time project though! Well today I am going to work on getting my house back together from all the kids we had here for new Years. It should be fun! Do laundry and just about nothing else. WEll I should get going, Everyone have a wonderful Day!

Nothing much going on here . . . except my new dishwasher is being installed . . YIPPIE .. . the old one hasn't worked for about 6 years . . . it's time . .. everyone here (except me) is sick with the second round of colds since Thanksgiving . .. except my daughter who has been sick continuously - even though she has been to the doctor a few times . . . she just can't shake it.
Have a great new year everyone!
Chris
Happy New Year Janine and Cali,
Okay I am a day late but I just realized I never got a chance to get on line yesterday. Glad that your year started off so nicely. Jordyn and I spent the day at grandmother's. It wasn't planned but I needed to perm my hair and Jordyn didn't want to cooperate. So I packed us up and off we went so she could babysit.
Today is for cleaning. The house is a mess and I feel like I am just moving things from one room to another. Of course a 9 month old doesn't help either. But with any luck I will finally be getting a tredmill on tuesday and I want the space cleared.
Everyone enjoy the day
Monica
