I'm feeling like I am coming down with something and my honey is offering Ibuprofen and Advil, yes the same thing... but I can't remember whether we are allowed to have Ibuprofen or not.  PLEASE HELP!

 Thanks Guys!

I was told Tylenol ONLY by my surgeon, unless it was an extreme cir****tance and then if I was to take ibuprofen or aspirin to take an acid reducer at the same time.

Hope you feel better!

Thanks you Guys, no Ibuprofen it is!  I'll send Tim off to the store for Tylenol now.  I'm sure I'll be ok soon.

Kim as far as I am out...one day this last year I took some ADVIL in Jeff's med cabinet because I was hurting so bad....well it only got worse in my tummy!!! I swear it was like eating a half bottle of the suckers or something....I hate to see you go through that on top of not feeling well either!

Yikes lady! I took an ibuprofen once (I was out and had a blinding headache and got desperate) and it did fine, I avoid them anyway though, I know how hard they can be on the tummy and I dont need any extra problems! LOL

RNY on 07/19/07 with

The standard recommendation for RNY patients is no NSAIDS (anti-inflammatory)  whi*****ludes ibuprofen.

However, when talking to my surgeon about it, his advice was that it would be ok to take occasionally but not on a consistent basis because it will upset your pouch.

I took a few this past week because I had a hip problem before my last race. I did not experience any upset stomach, and my hip felt better.

When is doubt, it is always best to ask your surgeons' office.

For those 6 months out or so taking an Ibuprofen (1) because of a pulled or strained muscle would be ok.  I have done that.  I make sure it is with a complete meal (including milk).  I also take 2 baby (81 mg) enteric coated  aspirin a day...for my heart...doctor's orders.  I seem to be OK with it, but it is always with food.  Otherwise no NSAIDS on a regular basis.
