Wow Barb,
I am so glad that you got through that okay. How long were you in the hospital? They told me 2 days. What about my multi vitamin? Will that have to be crushed? Or is there a liquid vitamin?
Thanks for the info on the diet. I will go to the store today as I all I have are the protein shakes.

I was in the hospital two nights. Multi vitamins vary by surgeon too. Most will tell you to do chewables, I personaly take Centrum chewables (1) although, I have not had my 1st lab work done yet. I think I should take 2 but they only told me to take 1. Your nutritionist can give you the best advice here as they know what your labs are. Some people need a little more of this or that. The nice thing is that most things are either chewable or liquid.
I went after affordability and convenience, so I can buy most of my things at WalMart. You can pay more for vitamins on line. But again, best advice is to talk to your surgeon and nutritionsist as they have your medical history and labwork.
As far as protein shakes, I initially bought Myloplex light (at WalMart) in choc and vanilla. Some folks tastes change after surgery so don't stock up on things. In my case, my tastes didn't change too much. What I have found now, is that I really like Unjury (available on line) and I like Click. I am not a fan of fruity drinks so I stick to chocolate, but there is SO much out there it can be overwhelming. Again, some programs want high protein, mine focused on calorie intake for the 1st 3 months at 500 calories per day, then graduate to 800 and then to 1000 after 6 months. Only after the 3 month mark does mine focus on protein. They prefer us to not use protein shakes in the 1st couple of months and after the 8 month mark. I probably will continue with mine because of the convenience, and I feel better with my protein intake higher. Again, each program is SO different, best to talk to your surgeon and follow their rules.
Hugs,
Barb

Welcome to the Cali Group! We're an awsome crowd and someone will have an answer for your questions no matter how 'trivial" you think they are. If you have questions, ask away! I'm almost 6 months out and can tell you without a doubt that I would do this all again in a heartbeat! Its been trial and error finding things that Oscar the Grouchy Pouchy likes but take it all one day at a time, one food at a time and follow your doctor's protocol and what the nutritionist says to do! You'll be fine.
Welcome to the group!
Welcome to the group!
It's so weird being skinny. I'm 25# from goal and it's different My mom asked me how much I weighed the other day and I said TWO eighty one. I'm ONE eight one!!!! It's fun buying new clothes (wowza expensive tho) and my hubby is having a hard time adjusting to me actually having boney parts! ha! I still veer towards the Chunky sizes in stores but have to remember I can't wear those things any more!
The funny part is I love being skinny. I love being able to move better. I love being able to do things with my hubby that I could only sit on the side and watch before. I'm going abalone diving here in 2 months and buying a new mountain bike soon.
One word of advice. Start taking Biotin right now. I take 5000 mcg in the morning and another 5000 mcg in the evening. This is for your hair. I started taking mine 2 months before surgery and have not lost any hair! In fact, I was mega thin before and have new growth and it's getting thicker. My PCP is amazed and has even called me a couple of times to get reminded of what it is I am taking so he can tell other patients. I buy it at wal-mart and it's about $8 for a bottle of 120 capsules. It's basically a B7 vitamin for hair, skin and nails. If I had known about this stuff 20 years ago when my hair started getting thin, I would have taken it! n What your body doesn't need, you'll pee out

Hi again Dawn . . . Well I had Dr. Mueller too . . .and had to do a 2 week pre=op diet . . . mine was 3 protein drinks a day < 200 calories each I think . . . and one SMALL meal with 3 oz protein and some veggies if I recall. (Remember I'm taking meds right now) Someone borrowed my book so I can't go reference it right now. However . . . I had lapband and I'm not sure that is the same thing that was recommended for bypass people. (That's where this board will be invaluable to you . . . there are more bypass people than lapband on the Cali board). and DRINK LOTS OF WATER!!!!!
I'll get back with you later . . .was just checking emails for a few minutes My email is [email protected] if you want to use it . . .
I'm glad your inlaws can help you out - even if they aren't in favor of this - and hope even more that your husband might be able to be home with you!
