Copays? Can you make payments?

Okay, so my surgery is in two weeks. I have to pay the Dr's office $300.00 for the classes and paperwork. I have to pay the hospital $250.00. Will they take payments or do I have to pay all of this upfront? Money has been tight around here and I don't have it. What should I do? Go to parks and take the plastic bottles out of the trash and get the money? Won't the homeless people get very angry with me? LOL Just kidding. But seriously, I don't want to miss my date because I don't have the copays after everything I have been through to get this far. Help!!

You should talk to them but usually they require that money up front. EAch surgeon is different.  You can apply for a surgery loan..

Hi Dawn, I had my surgery at Scripps Mercy in San Diego. My Co-pay was $800.00 and they took payments. I'd ask the hospital that you're having surgery with. They may have different requirements. Good luck! =)

All hospital and surgeons have different requirements. All you can do is ask them. But I'm pretty sure if payment options weren't presented to you from the get go, then they don't do them. So if I were you I would start digging in those trash cans and get all the extra cash you can get! Best of luck to you.

You don't know if you don't ask. They know everyone is struggling right now they may be more flexible to work with you if you approach them adn ask. Be sure to talk to a financial service counselor or supervisor. I am not sure anyone else can amek that call for the hospital. Of course your Drs office will have an office Mgr.

Good Luck

As others have mentioned most doctors and hospitals require the co-pays upfront however based on the amounts you have mentioned above it appears the surgeon is requiring the $300.00 co-pay however, the $250.00 may be your deductible. I had to pay $2,000.00 upfront to my surgeon as his PA is not contracted with insurance so, I basically paid him cash upfront. Then the day before surgery the hospital called to confirm and reminded me to bring in $250.00 to cover my deductible and I explained that I had already met that whenI paid the surgeon upfront. They just asked for a receipt showing my payment and that was the end of it. If that's the case you'll only be responsible for the $300.00. I sure hope that helps. Definitely call and see what they can do for you. You definitely don't want anything postponing your surgery.
Good luck,
Heather
