Did you "Move to Lose" today with a gym question for everyone
Well its that time of day that you tell us all what you did to "Move to Lose" today and just remember that every little bit counts as long as we just keep moving.
After yesterday's bomb shell from the doctor, I have been trying to come up with a game plan to keep my fitness routine going. My surgeon said at my last visit that I need to build my lean muscle so my weight loss will continue. The doctor yesterday told me I can do almost anything as lond as its low impact on my feet....Weight lifting, swimming, biking, etc.
So my question is, what gym do you guys use and what are the benefits of you gym. Im kind of limited to 24 Hour Fitness and LA Fitness..... Would like everyones opinions. I guess someone upstairs is trying to tell me to step it up a couple notches.
Have a grest day..........Rick

I've been thinking about joining 24 Hour because at Costco they have a 2 year membership for $299 which comes out to $12.50/month. I need to check it out right after work to see how crowded it is...
Let us all know what you decide :)

i have a 24 Hour fitness membership. been going for several months. well worth getting, paying for, and using
everyone with WLS should exercise if they can. clear it with the doctor if need be. but its never a bad thing
IMO
I have been exercising regularly and have had a personal trainer for 2 months. The doctor has cleared me long ago...

I got super lucky, the university I attended offers a free membership to their fitness center for all alumni. It's a really nice state-of-the-art place that is virtually empty when I go in during the day while students are in class.
Ask around, there might be a deal under your nose like that thru your employer or some other organization. For example, the church I attend has a small gym open to the congregation a few nights a week. The local swimming pool in Long Beach has a gym too, you can lift weights before or after your swim workout. Check out the YMCA, they might have something affordable.
I get workouts from Fitness magazine. Tear out the pages, take them to the gym with me.
You could get some weights and a DVD and work out at home too.
Good Luck!
PS: It's important to understand that building muscle is important. Increased muscle mass means your metabolism works harder and burns more calories....resulting in more weight-loss. Building your muscles now will also decrease some of the saggy skin that occurs with WLS, not all of it...but it helps. I can only imagine how much worse my arms would look if I hadn't been working out.
I go to Golds Gym. It's close to work so I have no excuse why I can't go.. I was in there this morning at 5:30am before work lifting weights!! Amazing that there were alot of people in there working out.. I guess that one of the reason I like going to seeing other people working out keeps me motived...
Good Luck!!
Sorry to hear about your foot problems. I had to wear a boot caste right before surgery and couldn't even use the eliptical machine. I was not happy about that at all.
On the positive side of things though, I swam laps and used a stationary bicycle. I am happy to report that since my 89 pound weight loss and allowing my foot to heal, I am able to use the eliptical and I can even wear shoes now that aren't tennis shoes. It will get better!
I go to 24 hour fitness because there is one within walking distance of my house and one within walking distance for where I work. It gives me no excuses, well at least distance isn't an excuse. I also go there because of the pool. They also have a huge array of weight machines and free weights. Plus you get a free 30 minute one on one with a trainer when you join so they will set up a weight lifting routine for you.
The negatives are how crowded it can get, the lack of cleaning sometimes, crappy stinky locker rooms and bathrooms, and did I mention it can be crowded :-)?
Good luck in your choice,
