I'm surprised that you weren't told ahead of time that you would be meeting with a PA on your first post op visit because I was. I thought it was kind of strange but because they are an accredited, highly rated facility I felt I could trust them. However, when I walked into the room, there was Dr. Irgau. :-) I should say that my original post op appointment was to be at the APEX building, but when I found out there was an office in North Wilmington, I decided to go there instead. So I don't know if that's the reason for Dr. Irgau being there instead of a PA.

I am just wondering...why can you not have the RNY if you have RA? And is it the same if you have AS?

Edward is a nice guy but I just feel like I should be seeing my surgeon.Although since I've had a few complications I normally see Dr. Irgau or Peters without a problem.
But tell them at the time of scheduling that you want to see the surgeon and not the PAs.

Not a CHRIAS person here, but when I go for follow-ups, I wind up seeing a PA, a research fellow, and my surgeon. Granted, I'm nearly 4 years out and my surgeon's practice is a huge research practice in NYC, but I've always seen at least two, if not three medical professionals per visit.
I think Sheeyt has the right idea - make your request up front, and you might get what you're after. Good luck!

Congratulations on your surgery date!
I didn't think the pain was too bad. On a scale, I guess I would have to say 4. I had back pain from the hospital bed. It annoyed me more than the surgery! The liquid Tylenol with codeine helps a lot.
My co workers were all very supportive after surgery. When I told them about it, I got the "Oh I have a friend who has a cousin that had the surgery and gained it all back". If any one is negative, just don't allow them to talk to you about the surgery and get you feeling down.
Good luck!

When I schedule my appointments I express that I want to see one of the surgeons and not one of the PAs.
Topic: I have a date!
I have been lurking on here for a long time now. My surgery date is 4/19/10 at Christiana Hospital. I am hoping to have VSG but if my insurance company says no it will be a RNY. How painful is the surgery on a scale of 1-10? Keep in mind I have never had children so no birthing comparisons please! Also, when you went back to work, were your coworkers weird or inquisitive about your weightloss? Thanks in advance for any insight you may provide.

I hang out mainly on the DS board, as there are so few people with the DS in DE.
