Topic: RE: What are the differences between St. Francis & Christiana??
I think we have 2 places to choose from because there are so many people having WLS that 1 hospital couldn't supply enough operating rooms to fill the demand. CHRIAS has 3 wonderful Dr's in Drs. Irgau, Wynn & Peters. Let the Dr's office fill you in on the differences between Christiana & St. Francis. I think the $$ amount might be a little different. Christiana uses PMRI to administer the Skills classes, the nutritionist and Psychologist. I'm sure St Francis has a process also. There are Seminars that you can attend at both places. Support groups are a good resource for information to get the info directly from us Looser's. St. Francis has meetings & so does PMRI. Send me your email and I will send you the list of groups in Delaware. Mine is [email protected]
I had my WLS at Christiana 6 years ago. I've never looked back. Life is great, no meds now, I follow the rules. I attend support groups and stay active in the WLS community. Do as much research as you can so that you can make the best decision for you.
Your next post is regarding pregnancy. Not recommended for a couple years, because of the malabsorption issue with RNY. The sleeve & lap band has different requirements. Good question for the Dr's to respond to. After the Seminar at Christiana there is a question and answer period. Good time to ask away.
Take care, stay focused and positive. ((HUGS)) Elissa

By "process" do you mean WLS? I had mine performed at St. Francis and have no complaints. The pre-admission team were very nice and everything moved along smoothly.
The nurses who prepped me for surgery were wonderful. Very friendly and informative. As were the nurses during my hospital stay. The one difference I know of between Christiana and St Francis (that I've been told) are the rooms. A friend of mine had her surgery performed at Christiana and said the rooms there are like something out of a resort. The rooms at St. Francis are "typical" hospital rooms. But still nice, in my opinion.

Topic: Pregnancy after WLS?
I'm planning on having weight loss surgery & I'm just curious about pregnancy works after surgery. I've always wanted kids. I'm 22 years old, which is pretty young still, but I do want children in the future. I always had unprotected sex with my ex but I never got pregnant. I just figured I wasn't able to have kids. But then I found out that weight plays a big role in your reproductive health.
Anyway, does anyone have any stories of you or someone you know that got pregnant after WLS? I know you have to wait 18 months until you get pregnant. Thanks. =]

I never knew that you could choose whether you wanted your surgery through Christiana Care or St. Francis. From my understanding, St. Francis has an easier process (which can be good or bad I think, depending on the person). Which hospital did you go through? What are you experiences? I've heard a lot of bad things about St. Francis hospital, but does it really matter which hospital? The surgeon is the same. I've never actually talked to anyone that went through the process through St. Francis. So I guess I'm looking for pros & cons for both hospitals. Thanks. =]
Topic: RE: Bummed......
LOL, I was just happy that someone answered me. I did make the appointment. It went well but I realized that due to my RA I am only elligble for the sleeve and the DS. I prefer the DS and they don't do it there. However, I was glad that due to BMI, and other things that I am a great canidate. I am now on the search for a DS doctor. Thanks again for you response, it helped me out when I was nervous pre-consult.

Sorry that my forecasting skills were not too great - I'm not a meteorolgist (and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express the night before). Hope that you either got to keep your appointment or were able to reschedule soon.

Thank you for your response! I am excited and can't wait to see what tomorrow brings :)
Topic: RE: update on Liz C.! She had her RNY on Monday!
Been thinking about Liz. Hope the nausea has subsided. Maybe a reaction to the anesthesia??
Let her know that her job for the next couple weeks is to walk, sip & breathe. Keep the liquids and protein up. I hope she found a protein drink that she likes. Let her know that we made room on the Looser's bench for her. Can't wait to see her at the next Victory mtg. ((HUGS)) Elissa
Topic: RE: Do I start over? Or how do I go about doing this?
Speaking of snow, I'm sick of the stuff!! Luckily I'm only seeing like a flake an hour right now in Newark. LOL But I'll let you know how my appointment with Dr. Peters goes!!

March 31 will be here before you even know it. (and hopefully the snow will be GONE!).
So glad that you're mom is now in your corner. It's so much easier to go through this journey with support.
