Topic: RE: re: Healthy Journey
Elissa, If you guys find a place I will gladly come up once a month to help you co -lead a group. I am starting my group back up in June. It will be every Monday 6:00 p.m. -7:00p.m. Every other Monday will be for people struggling after weightloss surgery. Please put it on the list. All is the same except times and day. My phone # is ( 302) 945-2597. You may have the old one. Please call or email me if you are interested. See you lighter . Joanne
Topic: RE: re: Lurkers-Friends
Elissa, I couldn't agree with you more. Everyone please do your research and ask lots of questions. Be your own advocate and pick a Dr. you trust and think you can work with. If you don't think you can listen to the Dr. or you don't think they know what they are talking about they are not the one to do your surgery. This is absolutly no cure all . It is just a tool and if you are not willing to do the work you are waisting your time and the Dr's. Some people get lucky and can break rules. I have learned the hard way I am one who can't. Sorry I haven't been on much but my computer got a virus and I am at the libruary until it is fixed. See you lighter. Joanne
Topic: re: Lurkers-Friends
Hello Lurkers!! I hope that if you get nothing else, you listen to the Doctor's when you have issues.
The boards are a good source of information, but the Doctor's are there for us when there are medical problems. I think we are setting the standards as we go. We need to keep the Doc's informed.
I listened to a person at a support group back in March, who had not yet had surgery, and she scared me. She actually informed the group not to listen to the Doctor's. She knew by doing research on the computer what was best for her. I wish I knew her name I'd like to follow up to see how she's doing now. She scared me because she believed that the Doctor's were mis-informing us.
I think in the WLS community there is a difference of opinion between the different Doctor's from different practices. Please please don't take this surgery lightly. It is not the easy way out. There are lots of rules that should be followed. There are do's and don'ts and must have's and have not's. We don't know what the future will bring so treat your body good, listen to your Dr's, come to a support group if you can.
There used to be a lot of information on the Delaware boards. I for 1 miss all the folks that used to be active and had a lot of information to share. WHERE ARE YOU!!!!
Be healthy and Be safe. ((HUGS)) Elissa

Topic: RE: kidney problems after GB surgery
I'm sorry to hear that. I will make an appointment with Dr. Irgau to discuss this issue. I went back on bp meds since I gained 70 pounds about 2 years ago and was not treating my bp because the meds gave me side effects that were not managable at work. I only take 1 pill for my bp a day and because I am at a less stressful job now I have seen a decrease in my bp. Those are some of the same dietary restrictions my friend has been given by her dr's (she cannot even have peanut buttter or eggs). She is trying to find substitutes for her restrictions. If you have any ideas or if your daughter has some information could you let me know? E-mail any suggestions to me. Thanks and hopefully when you guys find a new venue I will be able to start coming back to the support meetings again. The past three years have been topsy turvy for me and I am just getting myself together. Thanks again and take care,

Carol, my daughter is in Renal Failure due to Pre-Clampsia when she was pregnant 5 yrs ago. She does dyalisis every night and is in the process of getting her clearances to become a kidney recipient.
Keep her in your prayers. Little Abby weighed 2 lb 6 oz at birth. She is within the normal ranges now and is a little terror at 4 and a half, Thank God.
I have not encountered anyone yet that has renal issues due to WLS. Have you talked to Dr. Irgau, Peters or Wynn? They might know if there are any others out there with kidney issues.
How's your Blood pressure? Andrea is on 3 meds for bp. (She only weighs 125). She has to watch her diet. Can't eat dairy, cheese, yogurt, brocolli. Any food high in potassium is a no no.
Make sure you post on the main board also. Keep us informed. ((HUGS)) Elissa

MMMM downtown. I'd prefer to stay out of the city. Stonegates is a retirement community. Interesting. I
have not found a phone number or a contact for the Towne CTR yet.
Why don't you email me instead of posting. Too much chatter is confusing for some. Thanks for the
help. I do appreciate it. Elissa

Topic: kidney problems after GB surgery
Hello all,
Just wanted to ask if anyone has started having kidney failure after Gastric Bypass Surgery? The reason I am asking is that me and a friend were both diagnosed with kidney failure and although my renal failure is mild my friend has severe renal failure and may need dialysis. If anyone has any information on studies or on this problem for those who have had Gastric Bypass Surgery 5 years or more ago could you forward the information to my e-mail address [email protected]. Thank you.

Topic: RE: re: Healthy Journey
I called Aldersgate Church this morning asking if they could accommodate us the third tuesday night of each month from 7 - 8:30 p.m. and unfortunately they don't have any rooms for us to use. So I left a message at Grace Church downtown (903 N. West Street) to see if they have room. I also left a message for one of my friends who works at Stonegates Retirement Community (Greenville) to see if they have a room for us to use. Waiting for both the above to call me back with an answer. Any word on the community room at Brandywine Town Center??
