Topic: vitamin d deficiency
I just discoverd that I have a vitamin D deficiency.....and that this is very common now adays with people who have had gastric bypass surgery.

I was having trouble with my bones.  Had knee replacement, back surgery and was diagnosed with ostepenia.  My family doctor suggested we find out why my bones were breaking and had me go for a simple blood test.  It came back that I was vitamin D deficient.

Now I am taking 2000 IU of vitamin D a day.  The vitamin is over the counter and is small...so it is easy to swallow.

Also...I am finding out that many of my friends who have not had gastric bypass are being diagnosed with this deficiency.  I think this is happening because we use sun screen to prevent the harmful rays from the sun.....and this is where we get our vitamin D.

Foods high in vitamin D are mushrooms and tuna fish.

Just wanted to pass this info along.....better safe now than sorry later.

First off, Welcome and Congratulations!  Although, my journey has not been "easy" or "normal" I would do it again tomorrow.  Anyway, I have BCBS and had a problem with my pulmonologist clearance. Mistee sent in my papers (w/o the pulmonary clearance) on Tuesday and I received a call the Friday before my Monday surgery.  (I must admit I was so happy all I could do was scream!)
CHRIAS is also wonderful and will help in any way they can!

I have to say I know there are different BCBS policies, but they have bee fantastic through EVERYTHING.  If a case manager calls you from BCBS it is not b/c anything is wrong.  Kim is my case manager and she has been a great source of support!

First off.  Welcome to the board.  I love Dr. Wynn.  Not much advice on BC since my surgery was over six years ago, and things change so much.

Best advice is to try not to stress too much.  Whatever happens will happen.  We have had people not get their clearance till the day prior to surgery.  The staff at CHRIAS will work their best to get the approvals.  The other advice I have is to listen and follow the rules that the surgeons and nutritionists have given you.  They really do work.

We all look forward to having you join us on the loser's bench this month.

Howdy! I am a patient of Dr Wynn's ...I am finishing all my dr appts in the next week for my clearance for BC/ BS of De...tentative lap band surgery is 5/24/10. I was wondering if anyone
has any advice for me as I near the big day. Also, does anyone have any experience with how fast BCBS of De approves these surgeries.....I am worried about that. Thanks to all and
I'd love to hear any advice, feedback you can offer....

 Hi Judy,

Mom's favorite restaurant is a Jewish deli called The Casino Deli in the northeast part of Philly.  She practically LIVES there!  LOL   She's there a minimum of 3 days a week.  There must be at LEAST 60 - 70 restaurants within a 10 mile radius of her house, but she insists on ALWAYS going to the deli.  I'm not knocking the place, but really, how many times can you eat at the same place in a month.  ;-)

Yes, the weather was gorgeous yesterday as well as today.  However it was a bit warmer today.

My younger son  and his girlfriend came in this weekend for a short visit.  I'll be sad to see them go home tomorrow.

Hope you had a lovely weekend.
