OT- Well, it looks like high fructose corn syrup does have a "sweet surprise" for...
Have you guys been seeing these ridiculous commercials where high fructose corn syrup is made out to be some sort of health food? Well, this article just came out today outlining the fact that almost half of tested samples of commercial high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) contained mercury. Sweet!!
Yeah, HFCS is natural . . . if you grow corn and a have a small chemical manufacturing plant in your backyard. I watch those commercials and feel like I'm living in a Kafka alternate universe! Behold the power of the corn lobby at the FDA and the FTC. Maybe things will change with a new administration.
This is so why I'm an avid label reader. My boy doesn't always get organic stuff, but his juice is always 100% juice.
BTW Anna, I've been meaning to say how lovely your new avi is!

I change the channel when those commercials are on. They offend me, because the make the person with concerns about the high-fructose corn syrup look like morons. "What do they say?" "Ummmm, well....errrrrrrrrr" they might as well be picking their noses!
How about, yeah, they're made from corn, but they're processed like oil is processed into gasoline with horrible chemicals. And How about they're IN EVERYTHING.
Okay in moderation my foot. How can you have them in moderation???
I think that HFCS and some of the other things like corn powder (I'm sure I'm not calling that the right thing) are really contributing to the obesity epidemic and maybe some other public health problems.
