Odor, mythbusters please

I think everyone who has any kind of a bypass surgery or gallbladder surgery can have a big change in poo/gas and smell. My two RNY friends here at work, during the first couple of months after their and my surgery, could clear a room with a tiny *poof*. But as the digestive track settles down, so do the smells. Now they just stink normal.

And everyone acts like they never ever had gas or stinky poos or diarrhea or constipation before they had weight loss surgery. Beano exists for those who have some of these issues. As do spray air fresheners. My husband can still stink up the whole house and he has never, never had any intestinal surgery!!!!

Sorry, my pet peeve. Everyone ****s. Everyone farts. Nobody's **** doesn't stink. Nuff said.

Link, please??  Oh, and DSers don't stink.  I get together with 4 other DSers every month and none of us smell at all.

What would the odor be from??  Like a fart that followed her odor or a body type odor?  What do people mean when they say there is an odor??

After reading everything I can get my hands on, I have a sneaking suspicion that the basis for this odor myth is stinky gas. As someone else mentioned, this poser's "friend" may have an untreated bacterial infection.

Given the fact that this "friend" is also apparently severely vitamin deficient, I have to wonder if she is taking good care of herself and eating the proper DS diet. If she's eating white flour and sugar with abandon, or experiencing some other food intolerance that she isn't checking, maybe she is just farting up a storm?

I'd also point out that stinky gas is an issue for RNY and non-ops as well. I had a colleague at my former job with some type of bowel issue who passed gas all the livelong day.

with the DS you may go to the bathroom a little more often if you eat a lot of fat...which may in turn give you an odor if you're bad at cleaning yourself. that's about the only reason you would get an odor, since this surgery has nothing to do with glands that's what affects odor.

so, sounds like these people didn't smell too hot to begin with if they don't know how to properly wipe their butts!! : )

I am with the others - this person maybe has bad hygiene.  I have met quite a few DSers now and nobody smells bad (I've even HUGGED some of them and no stink.)

Most of us DSers seem to have some "fartogenic foods" as some of the old-schoolers call them, and those can cause smelly gas, but most of us are wise enough to eat those things in moderation or when we don't have to be out in public.  I suppose if the gas was stinky enough, her clothes might have smelled bad?

At any rate, I didn't poop rosebuds before surgery and I definitely don't afterwards, but I am not terrified to use a public bathroom or anything.  The bowel issues can be real but IMO they are not a good reason to rule out getting DS.  Unless a person's job is butt smell model, and I don't think that's a real job.

Oh, I hadn't even thought of changing my mind about DS, I just wanted to know the cold, hard facts.......or..........greasy smelly facts I suppose? It all makes sense. I would love to be able to shoot my husband out of the room, than I get the remote.
