Pretty freaked out right now - Sorry little long

Well I had a little episode yesterday. I went for breakfast with a friend. We came back to the office, and outside of the building I started feeling light headed. Then I started feeling extremely dizzy. It wasnt going away. So we decided to head to my office where I could sit down. I made it onto the elevator where I had to squat down because I thought I was going to pass out. We got off the elevator and my friend entered the password on our office door and that's all I remember. She said she opened the door and I went down like a tons of bricks. I whacked my head really hard on the floor too. It took me a minute or so to come around. When I woke up my co-workers had me in the recovery position and was on the phone with 911 and had the EMT's on their way. I had a major head ache (no kidding lol) and was very hot and sweaty. When the EMT's got there I was starting to feel better. They got me onto a stretcher and wheeled me into the kitchen for some privacy so they could hook me up to a heart monitor. Well at that point I started feeling awful again. I couldnt focus, felt hot and started sweating again. I couldnt open my eyes either. I could feel my heart beating really slow too. This lasted for a few minutes, then things picked up again and I started to feel better again. Turns out my heart rate had dropped to 30 and my blood pressure had dropped to 80/40. One of the EMT's later told my friend he thought I was going to crash. They got me into the ambulance and my pressure came up to 101/60. By the time I was in a room at the hospital it was almost normal. They did tons of bloodwork and of course everything came back normal. At first they thought I was dehydrated, but that came back fine as well. The doctor said sometimes things like this just happen.
This isnt the first time in my life this has happened to me. About 20 years ago I passed out and hit my head. EMT's were called, but I didnt have any heart rate or pressure issues then.  Maybe it is just somethng that happens to me, but man this has me freaked out.
I have lost what I consider to be a lot of weight in the last week and a half. About 8 pounds. I had been loosing 1 to 2 pounds a days for about 4 days (I dont known if I have lost more in the last day or so as I am at my parents currently). I had been expressing my concern to my friend the morning prior to me passing out. I have no idea if this is linked at all. In the hospital I tried to get them to call Dr L and they basically told me that unless I have a calling card I was out of luck because they wouldnt call him. Unbelievable! NONE of the doctors or nurses who attended to me had any idea what the DS was. They kept referring to it as the gastric bypass, which I then corrected them on. Anyways, I am putting in a call to DR L's office today to let them know what happened, and I am sending him my charts from the hospital stay.
Has anyone else ever had this happen to them?

Yikes, Trish! I don't have a clue, but this is interesting because I've been as dizzy as a goose this week for no apparent reason. I hope you get some answers, switch sister!! I cannot believe the hospital refused to make a friggin long distance call to Dr. L. That's just...unbelievable.

Disclaimer: I am NOT a physician or a nurse.  Okay, I have had this experience.  I have orthostatic hyppotension.  Sometimes, my bloodpressure drops abruptly and i will pass out.  Other times when I've had this experience, my bloodsugar dropped very quickly and I fainted (was very sweaty, couldn't speak or even think).  I hope you get to the bottom of this soon, in the meantime, if you have a glucometer, carry it with you.  If you feel faint, take your sugar and then put your legs above your head (really, don't laugh, I lie flat and put my legs up onto a chair or a surface higher than my head).

OMG!! How scary, and they wouldn't call your surgeon? What CRAP!! Argh, I am mad for you. I hope you can get a hold of Dr. L, and they figure it out for you.  I have had times when I was dizzy since surgery, but never to the point where it lasted long or I passed out. You will be in my thoughts!

What did you eat for breakfast?

How incredible they would not call your surgeon.  Stop on your way home and buy a calling card to keep in your purse just in case there is ever a need to get in touch with your surgeon again.

I hope you are feeling better real soon.

Anyone check your blood sugar? Esp if your meal was high in white carbs? pancakes? bisuits? browns? white toast?

I feel your pain -- I've been having episodes along those lines since mid-May.  My surgeon thought it was dehydration and gave me an IV.  I fainted in my bathroom a couple days later and ended up in ER for the day, eventually referred to a cardiologist.  Went through every heart test known to man over the next 5 weeks -- including a heart catheterization -- all to find I have the arteries of a 15 year old with no plaque in sight (YEAH!).  Cardiologist finally concluded it had to be that my blood pressure was too low.  He put me on a med called Midodrine -- which raises your blood pressure.  Crazy that last Jan I was taking meds to lower my blood pressure!  Since surgery I've consistenty gotten readings of ~100/60, with my heart rate about 45.  I started the Midodrine a week ago and have seen a big improvement in the lightheadedness.  I was getting the 'grey out' where you don't lose consciousness but you feel the room close in around you at least once a day for the six weeks before I started the new med.

I have found the dizziness/lightheadedness was worse when I was losing quickly -- I'm assuming because of the associated fluid loss.  Just my guess.  I'm having a terrible time trying to stay hydrated -- not sure why, I feel like all I do is drink water!

I hope your head is feeling better -- take care of yourself!

Trish, I love the first sentence "a little episode."  LOL!  Sounds like a pretty big episode to me.  I had these episodes also when I was loosing weight quickly.  Turned out to be a blood sugar thing.  It was related to eating.  The episodes happened about 1/2 to 1 hour later.  It was really important that I always got protein at least every 2-3 hours.  Also, you need to stay REALLY well hydrated during the summer months (I know I'm stating the obvious).  I'm glad you called Dr. L and hope they get to the bottom of this.  I bet it was scary as heck to have this happen.
