Diarrhea: Diet Coke was the culprit!

Hi everyone - I had been suffering with diarrhea for about 4 weeks, and had eliminated dairy, wheat and so on to see what the culprit was, with no success. Well, once i cut out Diet Coke the diarrhea went away. It must be the sweetener - i didn't suspect Diet Coke because I understood it was sweetened with aspartame, and I thought that aspartame did not cause issues with us DS folks, but I am assuming I was wrong. Oh well, I love DC, but its not worth the bathroom issues. I am posting just to give some encouragement to those who have bathroom issues and are searching for a reason.

Are there any sweeteners that don't cause you all problems?

Best,
Amai

Yikes - You are a brave woman.   I could not live without my Diet Coke.    I drink one 20 oz bottle a day.  Tried to live without it post-op, and lasted about four months, then it began to creep its way back into my life.   Sadly, it doesn't taste as good as it used to, but I'm still rather hooked.   I have lots of gas issues with the sugar alcohols, but I seem to do okay with aspartame.   I think that the Coke One is sweetened with Splenda.  Have you tried that?

Hijack!

Julie,

Have you tried adding some fresh lime juice to your DC? I really love the extra tang lime juice adds to Diet Coke or Pepsi. It's not the same as getting in already added in the can either. I like anywhere from 1/2 to a whole lime juiced in 12 oz. But then I'm rather fanatical about my Diet Cola.

No offense, but EWWWWW.....I LOVE LOVE LOVE lime, but I don't want nuthin' adulterating my beloved diet coke.   That'd be like...hmmmm.....having a peanut butter and olive sandwich!

Now don't turn your nose up until you try it. It's tangy, tasty and adds vit. C!

Have you tried peanut butter and dill pickles?   That's a good sandwich!   Mayo makes it even better, of course.

Hey Julie,

What is Coke One?  I've never seen that here in Nebraska.  I drink Coke Zero (I love it), and it's sweetened with Splenda.  Maybe we don't have Coke One here in the boonies!

Thanks!

Hah - stupid me!  It's Coke Zero!  It's no mistake that I failed my university's math competency exam FOUR times before they finally felt sorry and had me take a remedial math class just to graduate!!!!!

Diet coke gives me heartburn. Diet pepsi doesn't. No idea why! Splenda/sucralose seems ok for me, but probably best not to have too much of it. Or drink the sugar version but count the carbs in it.
