Have you tried Dr Erik Wilsons group??/ I know for a fact they take Medicaid not sure about Medicare but you could call. He is with the Memorial Herman group and they have several Doctors that do the DS surgery including him. If you want the number or need it just pm me.

Good Luck!!!

I also know for a fact this group will accept you if you have Bi Polar if you get a letter from your Psychiatrist clearing you for surgery, as it was brought up in a seminar I was in and the Dr. said yes if you were cleared by your other doctor they would do the surgery on you. It doesn;t hurt to call and ask if they accept it. Here is the number....713-892-5500, it's the UT physicians group.

The UT Physicians group is who turned me down due to the bipolar, even with a psych note. SOOOOOoooo.... I am pondering Dr. Steward, but will probably go with Dr. Leggett and RNY.

Sounds like you would prefer the RNY.  And, ultimately, it is your choice.  You should do what you feel most comfortable with...

Why can't you extend your vision beyond Texas?

I have never heard of this doc before ..    Does he actually advertise that he does perform the DS?

Currently, the only regularly-pracitcing DS surgeon in the Houston area is Dr. Erik Wilson ..     If you're willing to travel up to Denton, Dr. Daryl Stewart there takes Medicare and is a very well-qualified DS surgeon ..

Frank talk about the DS / "All I ever wanted to be was thin, like that Rolling Stones dude ... "

HW/461 LW/251 GW/189 CW/274 (yep, a DS semi-failure - it happens :-( )

Isn't this the surgeon who operated on I think her name was Renee?  She was featured in the show 1/2 Ton Mom.  She died shortly after having gastric bypass.

Oh and you have not heard all of this because it is not true!

if its the same show I saw the half ton mom, she was a mexican woman or part mexican I think, and she had her surgery and died shortly after from pneumonia, if I remember correctly.

what wasn't true? I'm confused?

They called it a "heart attack" and it was almost 2 weeks after surgery I believe.  I am not sure if she was "mexican" but I believe she was hispanic.  It was so sad, I felt so sad for her kids.  She was a very very high risk patient.  I actually am not inclined to blame the doc, it is good someone will take high risk patients.

To the OP, I know it is frusterating.  I would really do your research and ask the office to reconsider your case.
