Have you been to the VSG board here on OH?   I had my sleeve done a year before the DS and I met a lot of people - some I'm still in contact with - who have had a great deal of continued success with the VSG.   I gave it the ol' college try, but I needed the malabsorption.

If you don't need the malabsorption, I can't imagine a better WLS than the VSG.   The quality of life is wonderful afterwards.   You'll still need to supplement but not to the extent that we do.   You'll want to take some intrinsic factor with your iron - some docs don't seem to remember or think of that when going over the requirements afterwards.

I hope you have wonderful success!

Melissa,
One of the things I like about people on this board is that they want you to make an informed decision and you have done that. I am sure you are happier now that you have something settled and you can begin to plan for your surgery. Good luck and let us know how you are doing!!

I completely respect your decision and wish you the best of luck!  The only suggestion that comes to mind is I've heard of some drs using a smaller sleeve size for just the VSG.  I would discuss that with him - maybe a smaller size would be better for maximum long-term results?  I don't know, the dr would know better than me!  Just a suggestion.  Good luck with everything, Melissa!!!!

Thanks to all of you!!!!

It was a hard decision to make, but alas I did. Like you guys said surgery is a personal thing and I just opted with what I felt was right for me.

As far as the size of the bougie he uses it is a 36 over sewn to a 34. I asked if he could perhaps go smaller, and she said that a 34 holds 3 oz of food. I will talk to him though and see what he thinks about going smaller. I was telling my husband that and he WHAT....you want to eat less then that????
I laughed and said yep. ;)    I know it will stretch some, so that's why I wouldn't mind it being a 34 over sewn to a 32. But Dr Aceves has a 96% EWL of all of his VSG patients in a year, so he must be doing something right....lol!

Anywho I still want to come here and see how you all are and I will keep you updated as well.

Good luck to all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ditto all of the above! Rock on wit your bad self! An informed decision is all I promote and ask for people to do.

I did the same thing as Dennie.  I  did try my best and to be fair, my VSG is STILL working.  There is no absurd "stretching" and can only eat 0.5 cup of dense foods. It was all about my food choices and I needed the malabsorption.

The cool thing is that you can change your mind later, or be like my baby sis and be totally successful with the VSG!!

Congrats on your decision and rapid healing thoughts on your upcoming trip and surgery.

I'll still lub you :)

Hugs,
Ratkity

Lub you? Meh, might have ignored you if you hadn't thrown a tantrum at the first tiny sign of criticism of your decision. You blew that chance.
