Sia, big hugs to you, lady. I am so sorry for everything you've had to deal with.
You are one of the people whose posts I loved to read as a pre-op. The way you write is pretty similar to how I communicate IRL - pretty blunt and straight-forward, with very little BS. I don't post that way myself, probably because I kind of feel like I don't have enough "DS experience" yet to shell out advice hard and fast. But maybe I need to start?? This DS life isn't all sunshine and rainbows. I have been so lucky as to not have had to deal with much in the way of complications, but I am very, very aware of exactly how lucky I am. I also know that I committed myself to this DS thing, and that meant a lot of things - vitamins, protein, labs, follow-up care, etc. etc. I was willing to do whatever I needed to do to be successful. At two months out, I wasn't drinking shakes (at all), and it really dawned on me that I had better get my ass in gear and find something I could tolerate, because it was pretty freakin' evident that there was no way in hell that I could ever *eat* enough protein to keep myself healthy. I'm a lot luckier than you - I can tolerate way more different kinds of food, but I still have to rely on my protein shakes to sustain me, just because I can't eat the volume required to maintain adequate nutrition.
It is so irritating when I read posts about the unwillingness to change, or irrational expectations. I wonder how many of these folks would be able to survive living the way that you have to now? Survivors do what they have to do, whether they want to or not. It would behoove more people to remember this.
Hugs to you, Sia. Keep on keepin' on, sister.

I just want to thank you for posting and sharing with everyone! I am sorry for your recent losses. I, too, have had some post-op issues. My diet is extremely limited, but I am learning to live with it. I am now taking Creon which is helping some.
For anyone considering ANY weight loss surgery please do your research and understand that the post-op requirements are not a joke. Your life depends are your willingness to follow the rules!

Sia, I've missed reading your posts.
I'm sorry to hear of the tragedy in your life, and that your struggles with the DS continue. The DS (much like any WLS) is a crapshoot - which I know you knew as a pre-op, but some pre-ops posting seem not to realize. Most of us get an easier journey than yours, but it's not guaranteed. I'm glad you posted to remind us all to be aware of the path the DS can possibly take us down.
Be well, chica - and know that many of us have been thinking of you and wishing you well. Even perpetual lurkers like myself :)
