is switch a higher risk
The DS has the best statistics of any wls for percentage excess weight loss, for MAINTAINING that weight loss, and for resolution of almost all comorbidities. RNY is plagued by weight regain. Lap band doesn't provide, on average, very good weight loss to start with and while there are some successes, there are many people who either never do well or never tolerate that thing. The sleeve as a stand alone seems to have early results similar to RNY but longterm results are unknown. We do know that weight regain seems to start at 4-5 years, which is not a good sign for the long haul.
There was a study done at U of Chicago, published in 2006, comparing results of RNY and DS is similar groups of patients with bmi over 50. The complication rates were almost identical, but the weight loss was better for the DS group, and the difference got greater as time went on. They have since presented results on resolution of comorbidities, and again, the DS group did better than the RNY group.
I hope that you will take the time to research the DS and consider it seriously. Check out dsfacts.com and continue reading here. You are lucky to have found out about it before having surgery, not after.
