Question about Carbs
Okay, after reading Angie's post I have another question.
How many carbs is too few in a day???
Typically, I bet right now I don't even get in 20. My protein powder has 0 carbs & I mix with water & ice cubes. (Up to 3 a day now so 90 grams of protein). The only carbs I get in are from what I might put in the chicken salad I make. At dinner time, I only eat protein (chicken, turkey, ground beef). The doctor told me I could have a small salad starting this week (I mentioned I really miss cucumbers & celery to him), so he said to make sure the cucumber had no seeds & I was fine to have that, that it would be good to give me something to chew on that wasn't a high carb.
I probably don't even get in 1000 calories a day yet. I measure food out to eat, but never eat the whole amount because I just can't eat that much.
I'm afraid to try whole grain breads or crackers (I make my kids their own crackers, so I know whats in them), because I'm worried I'll react to flour. I even made my 16yo taste test the cookies for tomorrows cookie exchange because I didn't want to try the tiniest taste at all. (I had no desire to either, which was really nice, I used to love sampling cookies when we tried a new recipe.)

Relax. You had surgery some two weeks ago. You don't need anything but HYDRATION just yet. Any food you get in is a bonus. But we talk about a "rule of thumb" of 30 grams of protein by 30 days, 60 by 60, 90 by 90.
You don't have to worry about too few carbs or too little of ANYTHING excep****er just yet. It will all come in time.

You don't EVER have to worry about taking in too few carbs unless you are doing intense or endurance exercise. The body can make the glucose it needs via gluconeogenesis from protein (and a tiny bit from fat) - this is just a slower process than getting glucose via eating carbs, so it's not enough for long spurts of intense exercise, but I'm going to go ahead and feel safe assuming you'e not currently training for a marathon ;)
Some people feel icky when they take in very few carbs, but if you're feeling okay, then don't stress. Just stay very well hydrated, and keep doing such a great job with the protein.

Nope, not training for a marathon yet. ;) Though I do work with 17 3 & 4yo's M-F, some days it feels like a marathon. LOL
I go back to work on Monday, good thing my main job this week is going to be working on crafts with them & running them too and from the potty. The other teachers in the classroom get to do the 'heavy' stuff. :)
