Hi everyone! Just lookin for a little support... I had my duodenal switch in September 2007...have had complications off and on with strictures but knock on wood no dilations for almost 18 months and only get sic****asionally. I've maintained my weight for the most part around 165-172 literally eating and drinking whatever I wanted with no exercise ever. In September of 2010 I had a horrible kidney stone attack followed by a lithotripsy followed by complications that landed me in the hospital for 3 days on heavy pain killers and iv fluids. They fed me crap food and I only drank apple juice cranberry juice and soda horrible and full of sugar I know and under doctors orders to????? So after coming home I weighed 185 I panicked but assumed it was fluid retention and constipation. Weeks went by and I hadn't dropped a pound. I started compulsively going to the gym everyday for at least an hour burning around 600+ calories each day only drinking water dieting eating higher fat (usually made me lose) taking fiber and green tea pills plus drinking green tea, it's now December and I'm still 183 I don't get it I'm freaking out. Is my ds broken? Am I doing something wrong? On my best days I've only been 182 my clothes aren't fitting I feel terrible and I've now hurt my back and can't go to the gym for awhile. My biggest fear is gaining my weight back I'm 15 pounds up from normal weight...I take all my vitamins and probiotics about 15-17 different ones daily. Any advice support ect would be great. I'm scared and frustrated and this site has been amazing in the past. Thanks everybody!

Some folks have had success in loosing after a regain by joining the Bites and Vites thread which is hosted daily by Gina. You don't mention what you are eating besides higher fat so I think if you could post what you eat there every day you would get some great feedback and maybe some good ideas about low carb-high protein foods to try.

If I have a regain that is what I plan to do. We call it getting back to basics. Low carb, high protein.

Thanks I am going to join that. I'm eating higher fat and lower carb. Mostly meat and organic vegetables. I eat my carbs in the morning usually kasha go lean cereal or oatmeal but I add flax meal, almonds, and whey protein powder and use almond milk. I eat Greek whole milk yogurt and cottage cheese. I feel like I'm eating to much maybe? I eat protein bars and drink water or hot tea all day.

Maybe you should ask the doctors to check your thyroid levels if they haven't already done so!

Would thyroid levels affect that?? I'm due for my annual labs in January. I know my uncle has a thyroid problem though.

Yes hypothyroidism can cause weight gain that doesn't remit no matter how hard one tries. I would definitely check with your doctor. Sending good thoughts your way!

Wow I actually looked it up and I have other symptoms of that. I wonder if I can get my doctor to do the blood test for it, seeing as I have ppo.

Are you eating enough? If you are burning 600+ at the gym and not eating enough, that might be hindering your weight loss.

First Thank you all so so so much for your comments I really appreciate it!

I honestly feel like all I do is eat...maybe I'm eating to much? I'm not sure how exactly to figure out to many calories is to much with the malabsorption. At one point I was under weight at 148 and the surgeon told me to eat 4,000 calories a day to gain. So frustrating to pin point this! It's consuming me now!

What is a typical day's food? It may be good to track it for a while...The body does accommodate the surgery after several years and weight gain does occur, but if your eating right and still gaining that is indicative of another problem.
Do you eat low carb, hi protein?
