most of you know me by now...
as that chick that complains and asks too many questions. Well, I'm back again. lol
I am wondering if anyone can direct me to a website other than DSFacts that deals with the RNY to DS revision surgery. I have been debating on this for almost 6 months now and the first of the year is coming up which hopefully means my doctor of choice will start taking on revisions again. (I was told to call after the first of the year).
I am so scared. I know the virgin surgeries are risky but when you go into the revision territory, especially a RNY to DS where the stomach has previously been cut. I know I have chosen a surgeon that is very skilled (per tons and tons of reviews and patient testimonies) and I feel that he will take aftercare seriously.
I know no one is going to hug me and tell me it will go off perfectly because no one can promise that...but I have 2 kids and an amazing husband at home that I am terrified of leaving without me. I have weighed the option of just keeping the RNY I have and the possibility of future problems (that have already started) due to my size. In the end I keep coming back to the DS revision.
...again, I am just SCARED. Terrified. I don't know how else to put it. It is an emotion I have tried to ignore but simply cannot. So, I don't know what I am looking for here, maybe some words of wisdom? and other sites that review this procedure?
Thank you so much everyone for taking the time to read my post again!

Grrr! I had a response for you and damn if I didn't lose it! I hate technology...of course it couldn't be the operator. *ahem* Short version: Talk to Kerry as he is a revision with oodles of information. I'm sure he'll be happy to guide you. I did a cursory search and found a few things on Pub Med: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19536053 I used the search: roux en y revision to biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch. Change up the wording to get more hits and scour over the entries that look promising. Good luck!
OK, you wrote:

Who is this mystery surgeon? The one you have listed on you avatar is not a DS surgeon. And if you're relying on the reviews you read on the OH site, you're kidding yourself. Those reviews can be edited by the doctor or his staff; they're not worth much.
I won't try to fool you and say there is no risk, there is always risk; but if you really have picked a DS surgeon who has done a lot of RNY to DS revisions and has excellent results, your chances are very very good that you will not have any serious complications.
I really don't know what you're looking for either, there is risk, but you control most of it by who you choose to do the surgery.
You can go to Dr. Rabkins' web site and read up on it and even see and read about some of his revision patients here: www.paclap.com
I would be happy to answer any questions I can, but you have to come up with the questions.

It's Greenbaum that I am waiting for. I haven't really gotten too far with his office yet because they aren't even really discussing it right now until after the first of the year.
Based on what you all have said here he is an amazing surgeon. Rabkin was my first choice but his program fees were just too high, not to mention I am working on a strict budget and just can't finagle a way to make the extra money for him. Greenbaum is a lot closer (NJ) as I am in MO. I'm hoping to do this on a budget but also being careful to choose a surgeon that is going to keep me alive.

OK, I just got a response from Dr. G. I don't know what to think now. From what I hear those of you that have been through the revision have really had to sway a doctor to give you the full DS.
This is what he said:
"I have recently been revising RNY to a distal RNY which is the lower half of a DS. It is almost as good and much less risks. As you know I have done over 50 of these revisions and have a paper coming out about them. I hope to hear about whether we will start doing the revision to a DS from a RNY soon. We can then decide which is best for you."
So now I am wondering if he just isn't going to do the DS revision anymore. From what I hear, the Distal RNY is ineffective and doesn't really do anything.
Can someone please shed some light on this and let me know if I am looking too far into it?

That's interesting. He has done plenty of DS-from-RNY revisions, so I'm not sure what to make of that statement. It almost sounds like maybe the hospital isn't letting him do them right now or something.
