Honesty about How I am 3 Months Out.

Stop discounting your health because you are a stay at home mom.  Stop it right now.

If you don't get on DS vites now, catching up will cost more later on.  Tell your husband that my husband said so.  He gave me his credit card to put my vites on, no questions asked.  The money you're saving on food HAS GOT TO COUNT for something (and the money you're saving on other health-related costs).

The time in your life that you spend staying home with your kids is just a tiny fragment in the whole time line of your life.  Before you know it, you're going to have an empty nest and probably be going back to work.  But certainly NOT if you don't take care of your vitamin deficiencies right now.

Also, for your husband:  It's cheaper in the long run to KEEP vitamin levels up than to TRY TO RAISE them after they tank.  And that doesn't even include the increased lab costs.  If your husband wants to talk to mine, send me a private message.

I.  am.  not.  a.  doctor.

First off, I want to say congratulations on the amazing weight loss...66 lbs. in 3 months is awesome!

Now....
I'm not going to jump down your throat about vites.  You did say you are taking some vitamins, I wish like the others have mentioned, that you'd post here what exactly you're taking.  I didn't start out on a full VL schedule.  I am a firm believer in modify our vitamin intake to match the needs of our labs. Our bodies are all different, and we all have different supplementation needs.  So as things have changed on my labs, I have changed my supplementation to (hopefully) meet those needs.  I don't get all of my vites from VL, but there are some things that we DSers need that are a MUST from her - A, D, E, K - those are the biggies because you just can't find the form (dry) and the amounts that we need.  You can use any good multivitamin, and you can find calcium citrate, Vit. B, and zinc pretty much anywhere.  You can get a script from your doctor for iron, which might be a cheaper way to go for you.  The A, D, E, and K are actually on the cheaper side of vitamins from VL...so if money is tight, at least order those, and shop around for the best deals on the other stuff...look for BOGO sales at Meijer, Walgreens, Rite Aid...or go to Costco or Sam's Club (that's where I get my multis, calcium, and B complex).  But the important thing is to make sure you're taking enough and in the proper formulation.

As for your dislike of protein shakes...I hated them to begin with.  Then one day I tried the protein coffee thing...and now I love them and drink three or four every day.  I'm one of the ones like Jen mentioned that 100g of protein is just not enough for.  I have lost a ton of muscle mass, and I am trying like hell to not lose any more.  I also know that I don't eat nearly enough to rely solely on food...and like you, I sometimes skip meals (not intentionally...sometimes it's because I'm just too busy at work, other times it's just because I'm not hungry).  The thing is, especially early out, it's just so important to ensure that you are getting in enough protein, and it's just way too hard to do it just through eating.  You need to find a protein that you can stand, or a way to doctor it up that makes it palatable to you.  If you don't like the thick, creamy type of shakes, what about all of the fruity options out there?  I've heard a lot of people like the Nectar shakes because they are fruit flavored and are thin.  There are so many things that you can do to protein powders to change the taste and consistency...you just have to experiment until you find something that works for you.

Best of luck to you, and get those ADEKs ordered ASAP - don't wait til after the first of the year!

Gentle is hard for me. I'm going to try.
Here's my beef:
You have to pick your poison. You either are a meal skipper who takes protein shakes (in whatever dilution) or you're a meal eater who doesn't take protein shakes.
Think of it like medicine. If you need to take a protein powder and dilute it in 1/4 cup of water and eat all 4 tablespoons like castor oil do it. Three times a day.
If you really can't stomach it, then eat your protein.

As to the vitamins: Do I think everyone needs Vitalady's Schedule? Nope.

But you have it backwards. You should be taking all those vitamins then backing off of them. Until your labs are where you want them.
Not waiting until you're nutritionally compromised and THEN going on them. Why would you compromise your health when you have so many important little ones to live for? I don't understand it. Some of those vitamin levels are HARD to get up to optimal after you've let them slip. And you being sleepy? That's your body telling you that you are starting to get into trouble.

Sometimes we know what we SHOULD do, but we need others to tell us. Take your protein. You don't have to like it. You just have to do it. Same with your vites. Which, aren't costing you guys any more money, because you aren't eating!!! LOL

i am going to apologize upfront because i know i may sound like a ***** if you have time to do things you werent able to do preop, you have time to eat! if you have room for an alcohol drink once a week as you stated in another post, you have room for more protein. you are probably nauseated because you are not eating enough. if you were around this board for more than 1 day preop, you knew then that you would have to force protein, eat regularly, take supplements, etc. i am not saying these things to be mean BUT, if you are like me, you had surgery to get healthy and be there for your kids. your husband should not get to choose to keep you from having the things you need to be healthy. it is hard to change, i understand that because i too struggled early out. as a mother, you should know by now that sometimes we have to do things we do not want to do (like drink protein shakes..... i hate them too but drink 2 a day..still). think of your precious little ones and do the things you need to do to be there for them for a long time. sorry again for being such a *****

You need vitamins more than you need cable, cell phones, or the internet. Cut those out before you cut into your vitamin budget.
