Forest Lawn Hospital in Dallas TX?
Dr. Stewart's office is recommending that I use the Forest Lawn Hospital in Dallas TX. My only concern is that it is an out of network with my insurance, but... they say they would take what my ins. pays as payment in full as the in network amount. First of all can they do this and second has anyone had any problems with this? I know people say a lot of stuff to get me to use/ buy, but in the end it always seems to cost me more money. Should I go to this hospital or should I go with a hospital that is in network... BC/BS/ Anthem?
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.
Forrest Park Medical Center in Dallas is a good facility. DS is fairly new to the staff there, but there are now two DS surgeons operating there (Dr. Stewart and Dr. Barker). It is about 80% bariatric with some other subspecialties thrown in, but 99% of their bariatrics are RNY and lap band.
My wife had her surgery there. Our main concern was having Dr. Stewart as our surgeon. Tracy was actually his first DS case at Forrest Park (and the first DS done there at that hospital). Her results were excellent. The nutritionist was worthless because she had no idea about DS requirements. I'm fine with that, because the foremost concern is having a complication-free surgery if possible and that's how Tracy's turned out.
I would have no reservations about going to Forrest Park as long as I had something in writing saying they will accept what insurance pays as "payment in full"; otherwise, I wouldn't go there.
He operates at North Texas Hospital in Denton, TX as well as Baylor in Carrollton, TX. They are very used to treating DS patients in Denton because he has been doing close to 100/year there for years (he does a fair number in Carrollton also). Denton is where my DS was one and everything was very second-nature to the staff.
Good luck with your surgery!

My situation is similar to Slims. I had mine done at North Texas & my wife had hers done at Forest Park. North Texas has a much better staff who knows the DS. Forrest Park is a beautiful facility, but be prepared that the staff will treat you like a band or rny patient. Most were nice, but just not educated about the DS. Maybe its better now (my wife was the second DS done there) What the nutritionist said was laughable. She had no clue about the DS. So just be prepared. If you have educated yourself well & can stand up for yourself you should do fine. If thats not you, ask for North Texas. I just had a much better experience at North Texas.
If you do Forest Park, get whatever financial arrangements they agree to in writing and keep all your receipts.
I was self-pay and was told I paid everything up front. 3 months later I got a huge bill from the anesthesiologist. I called them, the hospital and Dr Stewart. A month later I got another bill that was half the original amount, then another that was $800.
I've been so busy watching it diminish I hadn't paid it and now they're threatening collections on a bill I paid in full up front.
GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. Don't trust them any farther than you can throw them or Dr BArker's cherry red ferrari you will have walk around to get into the building.
