Thyroid still not regulated.

And this doc is the only endo in town. Bugger. I know he's ordered the whole thyroid shebang before. In fact, I've ordered it myself, via my PCP. All my lab results are at my office - where I was updating my spreadsheet on the clock.

I'll dig up the rest of the thyroid labs and post them tomorrow. Thanks!!

Charlee - I'm with the others on the T3.  I take the Canadian version of "Armour".  IT's a version of both 3 and 4.  Many docs still believe that there is no need to supplement the t3 even though 25 % of people don't convert properly.  With this dual action med... it's about not just numbers but how you feel.  I take 90mg of my pills in order to not feel like crap.   Try to talk the doc into trying to do an experiment with a dual action T3 and T4 pill for a 3 months and see how you feel.

One of the weird things that many non converts or t3 tankers have is something called "raccoon face"... it feels like someone is sort of pulling plastic wrap over your face making you feel tired.  It's not real tight but more a feeling of pressure on the "raccoon" areas of one's face... and usually feels worse when you're tired.

I hope you get this solved and feel better soon.

Thanks Allie, a lot. I've read about the raccoon face, but it didn't make a lot of sense to me. This is something I need to look further into. I've been having a lot of really godawful headaches, especially in the forehead/eye area. I assumed it was sinus or allergy related, then got my eyes checked a couple of weeks ago. HAH! My prescription needed bumping up all the way around - close, distance, astigmatism and the prism correction. So that may account for the headaches, but it may not account for ALL the headaches.

I'm a hot mess.

Btw... you said you're going to an endo.... it was only after I got to a PCP who was willing to work with me, did we get the conversion issue under control and tried the T3/4 mix.

Before I got on the right meds... I was watching tv ... an advert came on... and I could NOT remember what we were watching.  Like 20 seconds before.  I was so low and out of wack that it took about 3 months to feel right... but I did notice an improvement within 2 weeks.  The "fog", raccoon face... the dry hair, the forgetfulness, the body creaking like I was 90... all gone.  My weight... ah not so much :)

The funny thing is now if I do forget to take my pills... I know within 8 hours that I am "not right".   Raccoon face comes back.

You really need to find someone willing to work with you on that aspect of things.  My PCP was all about ... how do you feel?   The lab numbers back then hadn't been "changed" to reflect  that for many people... normal... isn't normal at all.

I am careful now with how I split up my b12 ... too much.. makes me jittery... so I take it twice a day.... will probably split/take it 3 times a day post DS.

when you say racoon face do you mean under eye bags?? I also am on thryoid (and have been for years) but not sure I ever felt any symptoms or maybe I just didnt attribute some things to it??? I am on meds & they change from time to time but havent checked since the DS 4+ months back but need to now I think . .

There's a dark circle under and a redness around the eyes (2 separate things) that have been associated with hypothyroidism and both are referred to as raccoon eyes. The raccoon face thing we were talking about is more of a feeling rather than a visible thing.

Edited to add - I'm not an authority on any of this - just parrotting what I picked up in several Google searches.

Like others, I'm going to guess that you're not converting efficiently. I lost my thyroid in 2001. Pre-DS, I took 150 of levothyroxine before bed and 50 of Cytomel in the afternoon and that really helped keep me going for the day.

I eventually stopped needing the Cytomel, but I'm sure that has nothing at all to do with my DS. Our levels just don't always remain static. Sad fact of life. Just adjust how and when you need to...

I think my converter took one look at the amount of work it needed to do, said SCREW this! and rolled over & went back to sleep. LOL

I'm doing my best to educate myself. Lord knows, if we depended on the docs for that, we'd all be still fat or dead. Thanks so much for the info. When I go back to the endo, I'll be loaded for bear.

I use Armour and it's the only brand that's ever worked for me.

For awhile there, for about a year, Armour wasn't available. Don't know why. So I spent a year on Synthroid and my labs ALWAYS came back abnormal. My endo kept changing the dose, but I wasn't able to get my hypothyroidism under control.

Finally, I learned that Armour was available again, so I told my doc I wanted to go back on that. She said, "You'll be starting all over again trying to get the dose right." I said, "Nope, I take 60 mgs and that's what works for me."

I went back on the Armour at 60 mgs, got tested about a month later, and my labs were great!

I swear by Armour.
