I only regret I didn't do it sooner! I have had no side effects at all and after the gassiness of the first couple months which was at most uncomfortable it was very easy to live with. I might have a little more bathroom time most days but I know if I avoid a lot of sugar & flour items I can make that easier too. I am anjoying eating lots of meat - ribs, steaks, burgers, omelets, egg benedict, etc. I even eat the pizza crust, taco shells & submarine sandwich bread so I really dont feel like I am NOT on much of a diet ever! My taste for sweets did change and I am glad for that as it was the worst thing I did and always craved sugar. Now that I have found decent chewable vitamins and can keep up the supplements I am fine. I never pushed water and only drank when I was thirsty so that was no effort. I really expected it was going to be harder than it is.
Nope! The DS was the best option for my diabetes. I do have bowel issues, with several BMs daily, but I had issues before my DS too. Sameo, sameo, just a different smell. I do use Flagyl as a maintenance dose which helps. Sugar alcohols are the
for me same with most all of the SF stuff. Certain foods are hell on the guts, but it's a learning curve. If I really want pizza, I'll have it when I can go home and it's just me and the puppies... hopefully it's nice enough that I can open the doors and windows.
I do love the food choices... bacon, beef, pork, fish, sausage, cheese, cheese and more cheese.

I never ever regretted it, but it took me about eight months to "love" it. That's the point where the good health I was experiencing from losing weight eclipsed the "hit by a truck" feeling of recovering from surgery. (Recovery, for me, didnt involve pain or nausea, I just "felt like crap". )
Regrets though? NO WAY! I OFFICIALLY LOVE MY DS!!!!

NO regrets in the BIG picture.
Only thing, is I wish I would of used a vetted DS doc to start. I did not know better back in 2003. had a revision in 2009 and doing great now. You have to be proactive on labs and vits and protein intake. Other than that it is a wonderful blessing. Have not heard of the doc you have listed as a vetted DS doc. How far are you from Dr Stewart in Denton ? He would be a good vetted DS choice to look into.
