Bone Scan

Evening everyone!

I have Medicaid/Medicare and I was wanting to do a Bone Scan or a Dexa scan for a "road map" for after my surgery. Does anyone know how I can get the testing through my PCP. My insurance requires a reason for every testing and I don't know what medical reason to give them.

I don't know the code but your pcp can order it and there is no problem with Medicare paying for it.  Usually they want you to have one every two years but I insist on yearly and never had a problem.

My ob ordered one for me when I was 48 and about 5 months after my DS. I cant for the life of me remember why! I believe they are commonly ordered after you reach the age of 50.

My pcp, on the other hand, told me the results were useless because I hadnt hit menopause (or have any symptoms that I was even close).

Two drs. Two different opinions.

I have Medicare and have no problem getting a Dexa scan. My doctor codes it as surgical malabsorption. I can't remember the code, but I know it's listed on Vitalady's site.
