iron infusions

I'm four and a half years post surgery, and have always had good lab levels, but after a long hospitalization for septicemia and a major infection (not DS related) my ferritin etc is tanked, I'm anemic, and the doctors are recommending iron infusions. I haven't paid nearly enough attention to all the posts on the subject, and frankly I'm just too exhausted to spend time searching the board right now. Could I get a little advice about the subject before meeting with hemotology Tuesday morning? What has worked best for the vets, what questions do I need to ask, etc? Sorry to just pop in with a problem, but I don't know who else to ask.

I started to ask if that's what was going on with you when you posted about how tired you were on fb. I hate that you're having such a hard time.

The iron infusions aren't bad at all. Do you not want to do them because of financial worries?

Had my first infusions last year.....quick and easy. My Ferritan went up from 4 to 170

Did you just use the word "quick"? lol How long was yours?! I had five sessions (one every 48 hours), and each session was over 2 hours!

I had 2 infusions a week apart. I was in the infusion center about 45 minutes each time. Quick!!

Thank you all for the advice. Met with my PCP today, and the infusion center is supposed to call me to schedule by the end of the week.

I have always been very anemic, so post-op I have had to get an iron infusion once per year. They give me fereheme iron. It's a very quick and simple process. I get the IV put in, they slowly push the iron in, and I sit in a recliner for an hour getting a simple saline solution while they watch me to make sure I don't get sick. I've never felt bad at all afterwards and my energy levels are up in a few days. My insurance also pays for it 100%. 

They have decided to do Ferraheme weekly for 8 weeks. They said I am too low to do one big infusion. They also said 15 mintes, plus waiting time. I'm so looking forward to this. I'm really tired of being tired all the time.
