Good Morning Kate & all you other old time "DSers" :
I need your help. I'm trying to go back to the drawing board with my current health issues. I had my BPDS back in 2014. I'm currently 107lbs struggling to gain weight.
Can anyone shed light on what they are successfully eating or should be eating that might help get my appetite back and rid me of the nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
You guys have been so successful - clearly I MUST be doing something wrong.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I just started a second anti acid. I was taking omeprizole. I just started pepsid. It helping for the hunger. Thanks!
Sounds like GERD or an ulcer. Neither to be messed with. You need to see your surgeon or a GI specialist ASAP

I just told my employer and co-workers that I was having surgery. I didn't say what kind.
so I'm a bit over one year post op. Sips/ loop ds/ Sadi-s. I'm having a hard time with food. Lately I feel like everything I was eating made me sick. I tried really hard controlling what I was eating. Cutting out certain food groups and things like that. I sort of gave up trying and my body just fixed itself on its own? I started feeling ok (not perfect but the intense pain and gas I was having was gone). But now something else started happening. I developed intense hunger that can not be satiated. I keep feeling PHYSICAL hunger. In the center of my stomach. I am constantly eating and I keep feeling the need to eat. It's not from dehydration because I'm also drinking a lot of fluids trying to stop the hunger. Any advice? (I kinda lost faith in asking my surgeon for help because when I told him that if I increase my fiber I get sick he told me I'm lying...) thanks!
I believe Dr. Keshishian in California has done this before and it seems to work well. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5240054/ Here is a brand name for you to look at. https://www.medicinenet.com/calcitriol-injectable/article.ht m Seems to me any doc should be able to order it if you can tell them what you want.
Calcijex might be a good option for lots of people.
Hi, all! I had a BPD/DS with Dr Sudan at Duke in 2013. (SW: 338 CW: 172) I also have an autoimmune condition that requires amontly visit with a Hematologist (she's amazing!) and an IV infusion every month. My recent DEXA is normal and most of my labs have been fine except iron (taken care of by 2x/yr InFed infusions) and my Vit D. UGH! I just can't get that Vit D to stay up and feel well while doing it.
These past 7 years I've been taking VitaLady's D orally and while I can manage to bring up my numbers it upsets my stomach. In the past I have just put up with the discomfort and choked the horse pills down, then when my numbers got pretty good, cut back on the Vit D/ recovered from the tummy upset---but eventually of course my numbers drifted back down again, then started the cycle all over. But I just can't face resigning myself to constant tummy upset with the the Vit D, forever. (I mean, as a DS-er I already have the other intestinal distress issues and that's enough for me haha)
Isn't there some way to take the Vit D by IV? Don't dialysis patients take it this way? Or Crohn's patients? If Vit D is available IM, isn't it feasible by IV? I searched this site for info and only came up with someone in 2009 who had Vit D infused. Anyone else???
Anyone have insight on this? Would regular Vit D infusions even be effective assuming I could find someone to order them? What kind of physician I need to consult with to explore if this is an option for me to simply add to my monthly infusions? I don't care about the insurance implications, if they will cover it or not; I just need to get this Vit D thing fixable, long term. Ideas? Thoughts?
Thanks for any insight, experiences, advice, or personal stories!
Thanks Heather: Two steps ahead - working on it now. However it is a bit of a process and gathering of old doctors notes and reports but I'm pulling it together. However, in the end a group of doctors will determine if they're willing to take me on as a new patient. I think turnaround is 30 days. Wish me luck!!!
Much thanks to you for thinking outside the box!!!

I used to live in Gaithersburg, I never had real good luck with doctors. I'd recommend reaching out to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. They have a great bariatric program and could probably recommend somebody, it's not that bad of a drive. Wishing you health and happiness.
