The main problem is while I am sleeping.
All during the day I'm OK with it. Just not while I am sleeping or trying to sleep ?. I don't get any good sleep because of it because I'm always waking up checking myself. All because at night while sleeping is when I have a lot of gas and sometimes with gas a have very very lose stool.

I had the ds 18 years ago. I'm 37. I don't work out, I don't follow any diet, I do take all my pills, I don't go out of my way to eat sugar or carbs and I eat enough protein and drink enough water. Also I would cut soda out sugar alone will give you the runs. I take imodiem on the morning which is a game changer. Also don't accept a problem as bad as the runs I suffered and even stopped working for awhile and it was not my diet it was more just following the rules we All should know. I also take everything I can to constipated me. Like beside imodiem think rice, think lots of rice in fact, think water, think imodiem, fiber can make you poop more. You might want to stop all fiber. Most people get enough fiber from food and I'm just saying I tried fiber for the same issues and I thought it helped at first but it didn't. You can message me but yea I just had stopped following the rules and the only strange thing about me is even when I was fat I never cared about sugar. Good luck. See a different doctor if he tells you stuff that isn't helping.
Individual responses to what we eat and drink sometimes seem to be a mystery. I had problems "holding my liquor" before surgery and now can rarely handle more than one drink. Others seem to be able to drink a lot both before and after surgery.

Hello,
I'm pretty sure the sleeve part is stretched out,
I actually had a 1st VSG in 2009,which was made too large.
I had the DS in 2012, they didn't touch the sleeve part.
However, I had another VSG in 2014 to make it narrower.
I have had blood tests that have recently shown that I malabsorb more (several medications taken orally show less in my blood now, plus lower nutrients/vitamins for the same amount taken in orally).
I wonder if there's something making me malabsorb alcohol also, as it does my oral meds.
It seems weird though, since, as you said, at this point, I should be absorbing more (and clearly, I have been able to eat almost normal portions of food for years),
So I'm still confused with this phenomenon of not feeling the effects of alcohol
You don't need a bariatric surgeon. Any doctor can run blood tests and recommend supplements. If you don't feel the effects of alcohols at this point, the sleeve part of your DS may have stretched out enough and given you a big enough stomach so the alcohol does not affect you as much as someone with a small sleeve or pouch. Or the original surgeon may have created a large sleeve as part of your DS. Your family doctor should be able to recommend someone who can check the size of your sleeve.

I take the chewable 500 mg of calcium citrate everyday. I am going to try to add a little more fiber by taking the fiber supplements to see if that helps.
check that chewable calcium. Could be the sweetener in it. I can't use any thing ending in " itol"
Sugar free Citrucel will not cause gas and bloating like most other fiber supplements. And do take Imodium when needed.

Hi everyone! My DS surgery is in 17 days and the liquid diet starts in 8 and I'm so excited! However, yesterday I was told that the nutritionist I've been working with since the beginning of this journey has just resigned. I'm going to call today to set up a meeting with a new one. I feel like I have everything for the liquid diet: tomato soups, low sodium V8s, broths, different types of protein shakes and zero carb protein powders (flavor and non), crystal lights, cream of wheat, etc,. I will go over all of this with the new nutritionist but is there anything else I should ask about?
I'm desperate to lose weight before the surgery. I've done liquid diets in the past and didn't lose anything, but it would change when I combined it with exercise. My body has always responded better to exercise and movement more than dieting. I'm using bands and I wish I could exercise more, but I have a herniated disc and some tears that are healing and even when I do light things like walking around my yard for 10 minutes I end up having to use a walker, or in worse case scenarios the ER. I tried swimming and doing small movements in the water but the same thing happened. Any advice?
I would suggest you stay away from cream of wheat and anything carbs like it. They won't help you lose. Even if they are on your plan, don't eat them.
It is getting so embarrassing I can't stand it.
I had the DS 14 years ago(2007) and I have been having very very lose stool lately and its getting worse over the pass year especially at night while sleeping and they are getting worse to where I am afraid to go on any vacation with other people because at night I wake up sometimes and while sleeping I guess I think I'm passing gas but I'm not and then I can't or afraid to try to go back to sleep and I also find myself getting Dehydrated more. I been telling my doctor for a while now and he keeps telling me it's what I am eating but I eat thing with fiber and stay away from food high in carbs but it gets a little better but still happens. Does orvdid anyone else have this problem and what did you do to help or stop it? I'm thinking about maybe taking more fiber in a form of powder or capsule to see if it helps. Does anybody think that taking extra fiber in form of pill or powder will help??Also if I do wake up in time to make it to go to the bathroom and after I feel empty I'll lay back down in bed and a minute or so later my stomach starts gurgling to where I jump up and have to go again after feeling empty after going just a minute before. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Lately my DS doctor was no help really and now he retired this year so I'm looking for help on here.
artificial sweeteners ending in "itol "can cause this.
msliyol sorbitol etc. check your sweeteners and try to stay away from those. Try stevia instead.
