I had my VSG DS back in January 2009. I used to be on these forums all the time. It was so awesome back then. Any of the same folks here ?
Body by God; alterations by Buchwald. I love Jesus. I so so so appreciate my DS.
Jmm4321, Be alert for any signs of osteoporosis with Omeprozole over an extended time. it interferes with absorption of calcium and other minerals..My hubs had issue and he did not have wls./(w/prilosec..) goes with all the ppi's.... Consider adding k2 and magnesium and d3 and other bone builders to different dose well away from prilosc.in order to maximize your absorption. I have lost my teeth because of mal absoption. it is another possible complication of mal absorption and ppi's.. just so you know- so you can be aware. Take care.
Eugene.A How are you doing? have you noted a difference? Just checkin in...
Travis, try charcoal caps away from your vitamins and aftr meal- a little whille.. it works for gas for me,, 2 caps one time... see if u can tell the difference. it will pass thru black, so don't let that surprise you...indigestion is indication of gas pressure or dietary intolerance.. high acid food for me.
I have been taking a scoop of good organic fiber every morning for years. I also take a very powerful probiotic every morning. I avoid ALL "sugar free" foods. Sometimes I do have this problem, but I can generally tie it to something I've eaten the day before (usually very high carbs - sugar or something very high fat).
You say you eat "things with fiber" - exactly what are you eating? We don't have a normal digestive system and things that work for non-DSers don't necessarily work for us. Let's say you're eating apples - that would absolutely kill me.
At 14 years post-op I assume you've learned how food reacts in your body. I'm 18 years post-op and if I suddenly started having unexplained severe diarrhea, I'd want to find the cause and not just treat the symptom (Imodium). If you really feel it's food, do a complete food diary (there may be some hidden "itols"). If you think it's not food (medical), find a gastroenterologist. Have you had a colonoscopy lately? Have you been tested for C-diff?
Good luck and I hope you find a doctor who's willing to support you moving forward.

Mrs.V.
I ditto what Hollykim said..
It will be hard to go from eating what you want to liquid. I would extremely limit all carbs.. no matter the source...I would up protein to 80-90 grams protein per day ..asap...and not wait on the liquid diet to do that...., that is possible with the shakes...and limit carbs as low as possible.. with a goal of 30 grams per day...
If you need some cream of wheat for satisfaction i would only use half portion cream of wheat and double the liquid.( for volume) Artificial sweeteners can mess with your hunger so i avoid all of those.
The goal of a 8 day liquid diet is to enable weight loss and shrink the liver., it makes your surgery safer.
Consider isometrics. you can do them from a chair or bed. It depends on where your injuries are, i would not do any areas with injuries- having a ligament torn is in my recent experience....to do isometrics get in a comfortable position. i begin with feet and ankles.. slowly tense all muscles of the muscles for feet hold for a count of 5 then slowly release. repeat in sets of 3-8 building slowly.over time working up the body ...then calf muscles, then thigh. lower core , with abdomen and buttocks.. upper body , arms , shoulders, head and neck...by the time i am done am relaxed tired and ready for a nap. you could do isolated ones to build strength n each set of muscles that has no injury...these will help raise metabolism..if unable to walk they will help
Just thinking with my fingers... consider.. do you have frequent gastritis? diarrhea or constipation? Do you have any idea how long it takes a food to move thru you...Is it possible you are not holding food long enough to absorb.?
Malabsorb problems are often multiple issues. each one is specific to the individual response. If you tolerate "flavors" and liquid supplements- a mineral colloidal may be the answer for absorption. In general change to citrate forms of calcium and magnesium. consider adding K2, it is the bodys mineral mover... the research showed it is impossible for the normal person to get enough in a diet alone..that did not include ppl with surgery on intestinal tract.
If yogurt helps try 1/2 cup of butter milk2-3x a day..... but try one thing for 5 days n a row or you will not know what worked!.. FYI,Sharpest cheddar has very little lactose, so if you are eating that i would stay on it.. for a few more days..
My DM had this issue and we had the same surgery.. hers turned out to be intolerance to milk( consider it is added to many foods and mixes via several forms such as lecithin/whey..)., many fats and all artificial sweeteners.
Try taking an imodium in afternoon for 3-5 days. It will also help the gas..sounds like you are having a lot... It is supposed to be non-constipating.
Drink filtered water.. avoid colas of every kind... limit fruits/fruit juices to 2-3 oz day.
During initial beginning,of diet changes.. cut out all milk, change fats to natural ones only ,ie olive oil, scant coconut or real butter, in extremely limited portions- (mostly for flavor.) and sugars.artificial sweetners will cause it, so will milk products,if intolerant..
When you add back in milk- try one of the lactose free ones, or goat milk. and only add that one food back in for 5 days.
consider magnesium- can get this with a 20 min epsom salt foot bath if your intestines are upset.- and zinc if not taking it and if you are taking calcium. and vitamin K2- which has been researched over past 2-3 years and is a mineral mover...note: it is not K1 which helps blood clot.
I tolerate eggs better than anything...i eat 4 -5 a day depending on size.I take a probiotic on an irregular but stable schedule... 2-3 days a week.and generally do these all the time.. I had a hybrid WLS surgery 24 years- it included RNY and several other procedures. It worked. I have issues. I take no prescripton meds. blood pressure low normal heart, rate low normal, last labs revealed anemia.. taking a natural supplement that is well absorbed, and allows me to absorb irons from other foods for that...
Hope this helps... it did Mom and I generally follow these same guides to stay in sinc.
