Topic: RE: August 11th 2008 until now. What has come over me?

If you really want to do the protein drink routine, I would suggest Premier Protein with 30 grams of protein. I love the milk chocolate. When I really don't feel like chewing; this is what I do so my weight will not drop from skipping a meal. I like the taste and it helps me maintain. I can prop myself up in bed, watch game shows on television and fall asleep - I love that.

On another note, I think I will try your idea of eating just protein; Meat that is, for a month. I love eating bison, veal (very high in protein), elk and also venison. All of these come in a ground meat package so it is easy enough to just make a beef patty, or brown up a pound and add a few sauteed veggies, and call it dinner. Heck I can even shovel spoonfuls into a tortilla shell and have tacos. So thanks for the idea. The primary reason I want to try this, is from time to time, I have a bit of swelling in my right leg calf. I sit with my legs crossed and wearing socks will also trigger a bit of swelling. I have been checked several times to make sure there is no blot clot; and all IS OKAY. I also bought an ELLIPSE and really need to use it several times a day while seated at my computer. I just want to be rid of whatever causes this inflammation.

Anyway, go back to your basics and let all of us know, how you are doing. Trying the protein drink thing for 30 days should give you an idea about a RESET. Good luck and take care.

Topic: RE: STILL ALIVE - AFTER 18 YEARS

So here I am after 18 years after surgery. To get this out right up-front, I weigh 98.6 lbs. That's not my temperature; it's my weight. I would very much like to get back to 120 lbs. I look better and feel better at that weight.

Since I last posted many years ago; I married a second time, my children are both married and I have 4 grandchildren. It is my job to spoil those grandchildren and I take it seriously. haha

After I lost my second husband who had COVID, and a heart issue. My weight suddenly dropped from 120ish to 100 lbs. My energy level was below ground level. I lost my interest in eating. I would rather sleep than chew and if I sleep thru dinner time, my weight will drop by 1-2 lbs.

It feels very strange to force myself to eat, but I am trying. I cook very well and enjoy it. As an alternative, I drink lots of Premiere Protein drinks. My hope is that I can regain muscle mass and weight. We shall see.

Taking supplements is a pain; but I have found a variety of supplements that are sub-lingual. It is much easier than swallowing and the after taste which I detest. My primary doctor after 20 years retired and I just sobbed. However, my new doctor is much younger and I informed her that she has to continue working until she is eligible for Social Security. She is a real gem and will consult with me as long as I have questions. What a blessing that is.

So, in summary, I am trying to GAIN weight, stay healthy and be happy. I enjoy working in my newly planted Rose Garden and trying to grow a few trees: Meyer Lemon, Key Lime, and Avocado. I live alone, so I subscribed to the Alexa Alert service, so 911 is just a voice request. I have great neighbors who help with small things, like changing a light bulb or the Smoke Alarm battery.

I will be back to post more often. Take care, Y'ALL.

Yes, 11 years and still laughing my flat skinny butt off. Isn't it nice to not have to feel like you need a New Year's resolution to lose weight. Yuk Yuk.

My body has adjusted well to lower lab results, but I am essentially healthy.

So to my arrogant x-husband who spent 13 years of marriage belittling me for being overweight, while he was 5'10" and 135 lbs, I say "eat dirt buster". I am thinner than you, healthier than you, have a HELL of a LOT more money than you, a home and a new car that is PAID for, someone who thinks I am the best Woman on the planet, and all my children live with 5-30 minutes from my front door. I can see my grandchildren anytime I feel like it.

So when your job dropped at our daughters wedding, it was priceless and I looked like a million bucks. GOTCHA BUDDY.

Kiss my grits.

The best payback is to live longer, have more money and be thinner. Check, check, check.

Odoban is also carried at Walmart. Not sure if they have the concentrate, but they do sell a small squirt bottle. $10 for the gallon of concentrate, which then makes numerous regular strength gallons, is the WAY TO GO.

I have the same thing.  Six years out and yes I have a protein deficit.  I am going to see a hematologist (sp)  ASAP.  The ER doctor who tested to see if I had a blood clot told me that my white and red blood cells are being produced like they should be.  So, here we go.  Appointment next week.

Since this was over five years ago, I don't remember exactly when the taste issues turned around.  BUT, yes I do drink a cup or two of coffee everyday starting at 5AM.  It did take a while, and I am thinking it was about two months or so, before it stopped tasting like DIRT.

Before surgery I experimented with several protein drinks too.  After surgery, the one I liked best, made me gag.  So there you have it; my taste buds were definitely screwed up for a while.

My tastes for protein and sweets (especially fruit) did not alter at all.  Apple chewed to mush was really good and satisfying.  Same for any meat; I chewed it to mush before swallowing.

I am hoping you are taking some medical leave if you are employed.  If NOT, then only do what is absolutely necessary and rest; be kind to your body.

Remember you just had MAJOR surgery.  Listening to your body is KEY.  If you are exhausted, heck even if you aren't exhausted, TAKE IT EASY.  Cut yourself some slack.  A year from now you will be so thin and have so much energy, you will be amazed.

As for my experience, food tasted like absolute dirt for months. Coffee was simply awful and I love coffee.  Eventually all that changed.  Now I am five years out, with 100% excess weight loss, and keeping it all off.  I eat whatever I want, whenever I want.  I still have good restriction, because I have always eaten small portions.

Take is easy.  Take it slow.  Let your body heal and get past the shock to your system.

Still being cautious about taking the ferrous fumerate with the Calcium, until my Iron is within range again.

It is my understanding that Calcium and IRON simply should not be taken together - either one interferes with the absorption of the other - same goes for ZINC.  I.E. dont take Zinc, Iron or Calcium (any combintation of two or three of these) together.

However, I am thinking there is a type of iron that is the exception.  Could be dead wrong, but I thought I would ask.

Almost three years out and rolling right along.

Sam's Club sells a product called ODORBAN in concentrated form.  It is a disinfectant and deoderizer as well.  You can mix it in varying strengths for different purposes.  A gallon of the concentrate sells for $9.99 (approx.).  It smells like eucalptus (msp? too lazy to ck spelling).

I have used this for the past three months and mix up a gallon using the concentrate.  Then I fill up an old AquaMist deoderizer bottle and WHAM, I am set for a week or more, then refill for the mixed gallon again.  TheAquaMist bottle dispenses the deoderizer in a fine enough spray that the floor isn't wet nor any other surfaces.  To be blunt, I spray inside the toilet directly since afterall that is where the ODOR I am fighting is coming from - makes sense to me.  The product says it kills the germs that cause the odor, not just masking the odor.

You can't beat the price.  And I don't mind mixing it up at all.  Since it kills germs, I use it all over the bathroom when cleaning (countertop, bathtub, etc. ).

Anyone else use this?

PS:  I am also using a small squirt bottle of bleach to fight the dreaded ORANGE Stuff.  Just a squirt and it all disappears without having a toilet brush that looks orange.  YUK and TMI, right !?

I've been out of the MB loop for a while and have a question.

For the past two years I have taken prescription strength iron but my insurance coverage ran out, so I am taking iron over-the-counter.  I found some iron called HEMEVITE in the form of ferrous fumerate.

Somewhere in my brain is a faint memory of a thread on here that said a particular form of iron WOULD not interfere with Calcium consumption. For years I have scheduled my iron a few hours from my (three times daily) doses of calcium.  Is this necessary with ferrous fumerate?

RNY isn't the GOLD STANDARD.  It's STANDARD but far from GOLD.

Whoever said that is talking out of their BEHIND.

There I said it.

I wanted the Cadillac procedure for weight loss - so I got the DS. And I have a fully functioning stomach (just smaller than normal) - not some silly POUCH.

Oh pooh, don't get me started. . . .

Lois, here is my advice.

Do not indebt your home with a loan, even if you manage to qualify.  Go back to school, file bankruptcy (Chapter 7, if you qualify), keep the $7000 if you have it on hand, tell these debt restructing people to fly a kite.  Get that education and stipend, which will go a long way to qualifying for the Chapter 7 (no payback of the debt) bankruptcy.

Two years from now you will be able to get other credit cards, buy a new car or what ever you need to do financially with a CLEAN SLATE.

Good luck to you.   AND By the Way, 96 lbs in nine months is GREAT, especially with the stall for the past few months.

Topic: RE: Anyone awake? Been up all night with gas pains. Now that I WANT to sleep I can't get it, heh.

I had those wrenching shoulder pains too - in fact, that was my ONLY discomfort after the DS surgery.  Nurses kept telling me it would take care of itself but that was a CROCK.  After three nights of sleeping less than two hours, I announced everyone was staying up all night on my floor at the hospital, if I did not get some relief.  Surgeon came in a prescribed drugs and YES I walked (which of course set off massive fireworks in the bathroom).

It took about a week and three different pain killers for the gas pains in my shoulder to finally subside.  It passes once that gas finds it way down and out.  Thank you jesus!  Hang in there.  You have nothing but good things to look forward to.

PS:  Dittos regarding the cheeseburgers.  They looked delicious to me after surgery and I CRAVED just one nibble. After six weeks, I had one bite and it tasted like CARDBOARD.  Taste buds were whacked out for almost six months.  A hamburger still has never tasted the same to me as it did pre-surgery.

Good luck.

Just thinking, HOW CAN a boss let someone go because they are having major surgery?  I believe there is a federal law that prohibits that.  If this boss has ever allowed anyone time off for illness, then he has to let this person come back too.  Unless I am mistaken that law passed in the late 70's or early 80's.  To let this person go, and allow others to return to work, is considered a violation of Labor Law.

Just my thoughts on the matter. If it goes down that way, I would suggest contacting the Labor Board.

Contact Dr. S. Ganta in Austin, Texas with Austin Bariatric and Laproscopy.  If the other doctors clear you, he should too.   He also takes Medicare.  Austin is much closer to Houston, than Denton.

You can't beat the DS.  Good luck with whatever you decide.  Put check out all the possibilities first and have no regrets when you decide.

I eat whatever I want after consuming my protein.  That includes veggies, fruit, juices, diet soda, coffee/coffee drinks and desserts.

Like I said, I eat whatever I want.  Always have and lost 100 percent of my excess weight.

If the time comes to cut the carbs, I will do just that.  So far my restriction is working fine too.

Hallelujah.

Topic: RE: Aetna and Plastic Surgery

I am 2 years post DS, with my weight stablized for the past year.

Before my DS, I had considered and was approved for a Panniculectomy (msp) paid for by Humana.  This past year, insurance coverage was switched to Aetna and I have no idea what their procedure is for plastic surgery approval.

Humana approved my procedure the same afternoon they received the request.  However, Aetna says it will take seven to ten days, and of course, requires medical necessity.

Just wondering if anyone else here had to jump through hoops to get approved and how smoothly the approval process worked.
