Are you interested in: deep talks, heart-to-heart support, healthy refreshments, recipe swapping, trading clothing, and of course; laughing! I am! Who out there would be interested in joining a group like this located in South Florida??? ...Let me know! :)

I am an employee @ Shands and they have an awesome wellness program for us. We only have to pay a small fee and go through a wellness program for 6 months...it's awesome. I am very comfortable with Dr. Sharma, he is truly comitted to WLS. He was head of surgery @ the last hospital he was at, but he left to focus on bariatrics :)

Call the hospital(s) in your area as most of them will have a seminar and support group.
In addition, I'd call any bariatric offices down there and see what they can tell me. Must surgeons have support groups but they're usually for their own surgeons but it won't hurt to ask.

Emily, I think the reason we don't hear too much about the 2 surgeons at Shands is because they do more high risks cases and most of their patients are referrals. Fortunately for us, we don't know a lot of high risk patients.
But of the few people who have had their surgery at Shand's (though I can't remember the name of the surgeons until i hear them again), I've never heard a bad report about the staff or the hospital. So, that's a good thing.

He's credentials look great. No issues or complaints on his license. Board certified, medical director of bariatrics. I wonder why I haven't heard of him?

I've not heard of him. I'm not familiar with Shands bariatric program. I emailed my friend Lawanda to see if she's dealt w a patient.

I am currently going through Dr. Hoddinotts office to get weight loss surgery. I have already had my referral from my PCP, had my initial consultation at Dr. Hoddinotts, had my Psych Eval and my 3 months documented weight loss attempts. At this point Dr. H's office says they are going to submit my Letter of Med. Nec. to Medicaid/ Medipass. Does anyone know how long it will take? I know Dr. H's office says Medipass is the easiest to get approval. Just wanted to know if anyone else has went through Medipass' approval process. If so how long did it take and was it hard? So far it has been really fast and easy but it is seeming to easy!!!!

I know this might be late but I am going to Dr. Hoddinott in Ocala Florida 352-368-1661. He takes Medicais Medipass and Share of Cost. He does surgery out of Munroe Regional Medical Center.
